Guys, I think I am finally ready to get away from my stock sound system in my 96 LSC.

Who knows of a brand of radio that will fit nicely and can pull XM radio?

Is there any way to use the stock amp and speakers? or is it not worth it.

I do not want to wrap a ton of money in the sound system but ready to start looking

Thanks

I spent about 500 on an infinity head unit, dash kit, and 4 pioneer 5x7s 3 way speakers. It sounds pretty good. You need to bypass the stock amp, its just a wiring kit thats easy to do, the stock amp isn't worth keeping. The pioneers are pretty good but if your not putting in any subwoofers in, like im doing, I would go with some kenwood or infinity 2way 5x7s. I know you don't wanna spend a fortune but you do get what you pay for, so spend a descent amount now so you don't have to do it again later! I hate doing things twice, but thats just my opinion!

I got a kenwood HU, double din touch screen, dvd, nav, reverse camera, etc..
It was $1k but well worth it. Take out everything stock and start from there like chicken said, youll be glad you did. I used infinity kappa 5x7's, cant beat the sound quality. I also went with kenwood subs and a 1200 watt amp. Kinda pricy, but it sounds great.

im running a pioneer single din cd, clif design front 6.5" components (carbon fiber FTW) and tweets, some cheap assed blaupunkt 3 way 5x7 for the real fill, 2 pioneer 10"subs (seriously ive blown everything except for my die hard pioneer subs) 2 OLD mtx amps and a mtx crossover. i put it all together for around 1k

I'm waiting for Jamie to give / sell me cheap a pair of non JBL door trims before I do mine. I'm kicking myself, because I watched him throw a good set in the trash and it didn't even occur to me to ask for them! :Bang

I've looked at those stock speakers - what junk! Can't believe JBL would put their name to such crap.

I put in a cheap double-din only to find out the mark (2nd gen) uses a 1 1/2 din. My double din doesn't push all the way in. In time the speakers will be replaced and I'm itching to put a 8" sub in the trunk in a small enclosed box but as I know from my last mark (12" bramha ported) that the sound doesn't come through very well.

im not a big audio person............i just got a double din Kenwood running thru the JBL amp and stock speakers, the headunit alone made a huge difference...........works for me :)

okay, how are you guys getting a double din in there if the opening is only din and a half?

I have a 94 and was going to dash swap to a 96 strictly for double din, however based on this post I am curious as to what is what, from the pics I have seen they look like double din, then I see people posting 1.5, which is which?

Its a double din opening for the most part, it is just a tighter fit(trimming the top edge and your good to go). newer DD radios have a bigger chasis than the cheaply made factory deck.;)

use the search and ull find that some of us had to cutt and make brakets for the double din to fit if im wrong correct me guys.
