replacing the antena mass

I have to replace the mass on my wifes 94.
I have the whole thing pull out and apart.

it seem I have to pull the black thing on the bottom apart
and I can't get to split apart .

am I doing this wrong.??

if u are just replace the mast it self and not the whole unit u will need 2 power the ant. 2 go up and pull what left of the ant out .it is better 2 have a person helping u do this so u can pull while they apply power(turn radio on or so forth). there should be no need 2 pull unit apart. now start feeding new mast in 2 unit and have your help turn radio off so ant. motor will grab new ant. and pull down. may take a few attemp to get right. good luck.

lucky you....I can get the mask off - no white cord....gesh!! and the best directions I have found (via searching) is "this is simple, nothing more than removing a few nuts and bolts...." WHATEVER!!!! gesh....anybody in now that has a bit better instructions!

I took mine apart just to take the old mast all the way out put it back together fed it in and has been flawless for the last 2 years.

Yes, you have to TAKE THE WHOLE UNIT out. It's relatively easy. I would advise putting your choice of tape all around the base of the antenna to protect the paint as you work the tool by hand. A pair of needle pliers to spin off the top lock nut. An adjustable wrench to get the fastener off the bottom of the unit and you can use the same wrench, to open the case.
You may want to have a few more plastic "push plugs" on hand for the ones that will break apart as you pull the carpet back.

Watch out as you coil the nylon cord into the wheel assembly as it can pop out back at you. Ask me how I know! Be sure to ad a bit more of white lithium grease or your favorite grease for good measure.
Or you can send it to me and I will be happy to install the mast and wind the cord for you. It will be my pleasure, to serve you.

You can remove the entire thing if you want, but you do not have to. It will simply pull the new antenna in when the radio is turned off.

no...it wouldn't take it in, it was already full ...yes..I took it out...we both survived...I was pizzzzed! that I had to do it...so nuts went flying, I am not sure what got screwed, but the part about nothing flying out at you - BS!!!! as soon as opened that sob, @#$% friggin crap flew everywhere...I took the slippery stem, threw it out, sealed it shut and crammed the new down it - heheh.. he's mine now....up when I command...down when I command (take that RICH!).

I RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hehehe thanks hotties and thanks for the mail order repair there Torq...but what makes you so sure youd get the antenna spool to work on?
