Ok.... bought my lincoln LS in may of 2012. It was in good shape. I had inner and outer tie rods put on it, new breaks ,tires and ect.... car drove great ,tight steering and excellent feel to the car. in october i started to notice a floating feeling when driving and could feel the car sway slightly back and forth. started to pull out of work one day, backed up a little and it sounded like the motor fell out of the car. CRAzy! come to find out the bolt that held the control arm and the joint together came loose and fell apart. the body of the car was resting on the tire. so all together i had to have the control arm and the ball joint replaced. $800 dollars later it was fixed. 3 weeks later started noticing a new sound every so often from the same side that was fixed. It got louder and LOUDER. Took it to a shop and they said it was the inner tie rods. replaced them again. two days later the sound returned again. now it is constant. It sounds like a door creeking open. it goes faster with the speed of the car and stops when i press on the bakes. I see nothing wrong with brakes and there is no play in the wheels so i do not think it is the wheel bearings. I seriously need help if anyone can give their opinion i would be very thankful. I have poured tones of money in this car that i really enjoy and just want it fixed.

How are your ball joints? When my lowers went bad it sounded a lot like that. I'm not sure how it would sound if an upper ball joint went bad, but I would think about the same. Another option, it's a long shot though, is it could be a strut/shock going bad too.

Thanks for the welcome. I love this site! usually everything i need to find out is right here . Its a great help to a girl who doesnt know much about lincolns. :)

the ball joints seem to be fine. the noise stops when i hit the brakes. and if it were a ball joint that wouldnt happen would it???

So it stops when the front end is under load? Have you had the brakes checked?

brake pads are good and the rotors are ok. not excellent but ok. could it be something to do with the calipers???

It could be...maybe they need rebuilt. I still think it's suspension related though. How about the swaybar bushings? Does it clunk at all?

That LS has hit a curb real hard in the past!
Any money (preferably T's-Money) says that wheel was sitting offset rearwards.
