Okay, so without trying to sound like those people who always are "going" to do something to their cars (I know, I know, but seriously exhaust and red tails are right around the corner for me money has just been really tight the last few months) has anyone measured the backglass for a roof spoiler?

In light of the recent roof spoiler thread, I did a BMW roof spoiler search on Ebay and tons came up for the M5. Our car was similar in size to the 5 series so I was wondering how close the backglass sizes would actually be. Another cool thing is with the second gen LS high mount stop light being along the top of the back glass these spoilers don't seem to block it out.

None of those are stock.

Looks rice and just cheap, IMO.

Those are so tiny! What's the point of paying $300 for that? Go big or go home :D

You are right, none of those are stock.

However, a subtle 1-3 inch treatment to the top of a backglass is always referred to as "Euro" style roof spoiler or part of the "European" body style treatment. There are cheap ones too, but many of the quality examples are part of body kits that cost a whole lot more than I would spend. Like the body kit on the S8 I posted $9862.00 (and thats unpainted, without the exhaust and lowered ride hieght shown). I know some ricers might be using some of these things, but it was the higher end Audi, Benz and BMW models that gave it some class from what I understand.

So while I realize to each his own, when done tastefully I think they look good on sport sedans/coupes.

But I have to add that I am very partial to OEM, OEM looking or tasteful body kits and spoilers. And while I know the LS is in no way comparable to $90K+ vehicles (plus the price of customization) I do really like the work done by Revere, Dinan, Brabus, and Hamann. So perhaps that's why I like stock body tweaks like the LSE and stuff like that so much.

Some examples include these:

That CL looks like it came from a Need for Speed game. Awful.. I've always hated roof spoilers and bloated body kits, lol.

Anyway, I would personally only put a trunk lip on the LS for a clean look.

i really like my roof spoiler, any time i go over 100, i just vent the sun roof. lol

I actually like the ones luebbe posted in his second post. I like them, they are small and subtle, just a little something to add to the car. I looks sleek and it's goes good with those cars. I dont really remember that roof spoiler that is out there for the ls, but I think it was on the bulky side.

Yea the one on that random parts site is huge...

It looks like those stupid plastic window deflector things.

Ohhh definitely don't like that Sonora one at all. But the first one I think looks pretty decent. Just to give a little shadow...

Comparison

[QUOTE...while I know the LS is in no way comparable to $90K+ vehicles...[/QUOTE]

Actually, I think it compares very well. I don't think my LS lacks any good thing (except some spacey gadgetry, perhaps) and with relatively minimal expenditure it has far more performance than is to be found in anything European.;)

KS

I've added a factory Escort trunk spoiler to mine. It's placed on the lid so as to be functional, and after a planned spring wind tunnel test, I may find that it'll benefit from a Gurney/wicker. We'll see!
