What do you guys suggest as an upgrade to the stock rotors without spending a fortune?

Brands? Drilled? Slotted? Dimpled?

Are any of the rotors on eBay any good. I am so tired of the rust on my rotors and wheels every time I let the car sit for several days.

Thanks

Rotors right now are a big scam. China just picked up on rotors as being something they can dump in the States and they are flooding the market by the container. The average rotor, fully machine out of China is about $8.

So you have everyone with a sac and a CNC machine drilling, slotting and dimpling rotors in every machine shop in town! And they get $150 for a set of 4 on eBay!

As with anything; always ask questions. Question 1.....is it made in China. If it is you don't buy it. That applies to about anything you would buy. Question 2, what brand is it? Who made it?

There are some reputable companies out there that produce great rotors. Most areout of business because of the onslaught of Chinese rotors, but there are some good rotors still available.

Brembo is the largest name. They produce fully 90% of the rotors for European cars and fully 100% of the HP cars of the world. Brembo just went Chinese for all its OEM rotors, but 100% of its aftermarket and performance rotors are built in Europe of quality materials.

I just bought a set of the Brembo's, drilled. They are great looking quality. They are Made In France. They go on the LS this Saturday.

Steer clear of anything made in China, they are all junk. 90% of all rotors on eBay are made in China.

You can get Brembo's on e-bay for around $250.00, just make sure and get them zinc coated so they don't rust.

when people coat the whole rotor coated (say, black) does the black quickly wear off where the pads hit them?

Yes the coating comes off. These are EBC rotors and EBC Red Stuff pads I used to run. They came solid black, the paint wore off instantly where the pads touch the rotors. They worked good except they squeeked a bit.

I have a new setup now that is still in design phase.

I would recommend you stay away from drilled rotors. They tend to crack and warp under street use. Race cars use them a lot for weight and to help cool, but they change them after damn near every race too.

Do a google search for Brembo rotors and you'll see a bunch people selling them. The stock Brembo's come with a yellow flash zinc coating. They are in a red box with Brembos name all over it. The zinc instantly wears off on the disc surface in minutes where the pad touches. Just ask if they ship in a sealed Brembo box and you should be ok. All those $150 for a set of (4) guys on eBay are pimping chinese stock replacement rotors that they drilled. In fact, the instant YOU place your order they call up their wholesale supplier and get the set of stock rotors delivered and they fixture them up on the CNC and run the drilling program, about 5 minutes per rotor, and they ship them to YOU.

Ken,

Thanks a ton. This is excellent information. One more question? I assume that because of the pattern, there is a dedicated left and right rotor. Are these marked in some way. Having only installed solid rotors, I just want to make sure I get it right.

I have the brembo rotors and the kevlar(spelling) pads and when it cold they are squeaky also.....yesterday I was driving with my buddy and he said let me see the brakes (in action) so I hit them hard and stopped great caused a little stink but no more squeak.....for now....

Yes they are directional. The rotor boxes should come marked as such, or if your me your so excited to get them on you don't look and end up doing them twice to put them on the right sides.

The EBC rotors are dimpled & slotted, not drilled. You will not have to worry about them cracking or warping.

We use slotted, not cross-drilled rotors for racing.
