Royal Purple or Mobil 1

I used to do the ATF thing to my 73 Mark IV. Adding ATF to oil is like adding Seafoam to to the intake, seems to clean things up well.
 
I am no expert (I did go to college for Motive Power Technician which is a broad approach to Automotive.My teacher was extremely knowledgable a i remember some stuff he said----
He said that running diesel oil for a little in the motor than flush it out.Diesel oil and Atf is a detergent oil and really clean all the deposits.I wouldnt do it--lol

As far as oils my thoughs are Royal Purple and RedLine really put a lot of additives in there oil.Not all those additives are needed in a street engine.Maybe for racing a 10000rpm or 24 hours at 7000rpm.Amsoil seems to put all their money in advertising.Probally still good.Mobil is fantastic for the money and is better than the other $5-6 quarters.I heard some dirt track racers use real cheap synthetic oil and still did better than conventional and still made almost the same power. They change the oil a lot during a season and could cost a lot. Anything is better than conventional. Buy the oil in your price range-----BUT DO NOT BUY CHEAP CONVENTIONAL

Auto Rx is the best thing hands down for cleaning your motor out, hands down no competition. I saw pictures of an engine that they pulled the valve cover and oil pan, they cleaned nothing and put it back together. They then preceded to do two flushes with auto rx then re disassembled and took pictures. It was amazing how lean everything was.

I have not heard one person say that Auto Rx didn't make there engine run smoother, or get better mileage. I haven't really heard one bad thing about it at all.

You can also use it in your tranny and in your ps pump.
 
Mobil 1 is very good oil..not going to make a huge different among full synthetics..but imo Amsoil IS the best..can find it lotta places here in Minnesota..Mobil 1 is right up there though

I'm not sure if I totally agree with that. Yes synthetics are much better than conventional oils but that doesn't mean that conventional oils are no good. They have been using conventional oils for decades and the oils have gotten better as well. Certain cars I would use synthetic in, others I wouldn't. It just depends. A good conventional oil will not harm or cause any problems if it's changed as it should be. An engine will go for a long time if treated properly and has scheduled maintenance such as an oil change.

I used to work at a BMW dealer too and did the same as Sal, everytime we had an extra bit of oil left, we dumped it in a larger container or grabbed the extra billed out liters and never had to pay for oil changes ;)

In my Mark now, I use Mobil 1... the Escort only get Castrol GTX though ;)
 
synthetics outperform conventional by substantial measures. period. theres no comparison..mobil 1 and amsoil are so far above any conventional oil..yes there are good conventionals like valvoline and castrol and most modern engines are designed to run with such oils, but a full synthetic is just so much better for your engine.
 
Full synthetic... I run it on everything I have

Unless you just build the motor...

But thats a different story!
 
I was reading on the auto-rx.com website about using it in your oil, and it says to specifically use it w/ non-synthetic during the "rinse" phase. Would going from full synthetic to non-syn back to full syn be a problem?

no..there is no harm in switching back to conventional oil..you can even mix synthetic and conventional oil...just not recommended as a long-term practice
 
What he said, think about it. There are blends out there already anyway - "semi-synthetics".
 
Both are good oil. I run Royal Purple in my 'fast' cars, and normal conventional in my normal car. Change your oil at regular intervals and I doubt you'd see much difference between the two for a normal streetcar.
 
You are right. It is not like a motor with conventional oil(changed regularly)blew up or had problems within the first 100k or so.BUT i know that synthetics are far superior and it would not suprise me if a motor from day one, or after breakin, that ran synthetics, ran for over 300k with no oil related problems.eg - sludge - bearings etc.Realisticly though, most people sell there cars way before that. lol

after you dump in 5k+ in items for your engine, spending 50-60 bucks on an oil change is minor..

If you have a stock engine, regular oil @ 3k miles is quite fine...
 
Mobile 1 in all the Frat fleet of fine Ford vehicles, execpt the 300,000 mile 65 T-Bird Coupe. It gets High Mileage oil. 2x a year rather it needs it or not (only sees 10 miles a year now).

RP in my fleet of 6 driver-cars, (I have lots more, just squireled away, on blocks now) total miles in all of them is over 1.2 million miles, I change mine every 3000 with filter and sometimes more often for the ones I do not drive alot (GTO, Shelby)-expensive, but, except for the Goat (forged, 10:5 to 1, line bored crank and cam, balanced), the engines have never been out-cheaper to maintain with better/best parts than to fix on the cheap. time is money...
 
I'm new to the Markviii and I'm wondering...My 96 has 162,000 miles on it. what's the best oil to run in it considering I don't know what has been in it in the past...Brand... Synthetic, semi,or conventional...and weight...are there any additives you could recommend?
 
you could run a synthetic blend oil like Mobil 7500 (i'd recommend) with a half or full quart of Lucas oil stabilizer..very good stuff. if it were my car i'd probably run a full synthetic like mobil 1 or Amsoil..but do an engine flush first. probably wouldn't need any additives with a full synthetic. as far as weight, 5w-30 regardless
