Safe way to replace the steering wheel?

I have a perfect steering wheel from a 97 Cobra I parted out a couple years ago and it looks identical to the one on the Mark VIII. It is missing the airbag though.

Is there a good, safe way to remove the airbag and steering wheel from the car so I can put the Cobra wheel w/ Mark VIII airbag in its place?

pull the battery wait 5 mins and go to town.

well yae san d no they have a capacitor that need to drain out hence waiting 5 mins.
 
Pull both + and - from the battery. I've been told to wait 30. If it's not a huge deal, I'd wait as long as possible.

30 mins christ youll have grey hair by then lol honestly yho is not so important for the removal as it is for the install last thing you want is that thing gettin a spark on the way in and poppin.
 
That is all precautionary things. I have removed about 10 steering wheels from Mark VIII's and I NEVER disconnected the battery, and NEVER had a problem. Could have been just me, or could have been just luck.

I would recommend disconnecting the battery for a novice, or anyone else for that matter, and giving it a few minutes.

Dude, that's like working under a car with only a jack holding it up... Sure, you'll probably get away with it, maybe even never have a problem. But the one time something gay happens and that jack fails or that air bag goes off, you're fu¢ked.

Hey you would'n't happen to have a "98 Black Mark VIII steering wheel in excellent condition? I would really like a Mark VIII Collectors Edition steering wheel.

Not really, it all has to do with KNOWING what you are doing. I have been in the car stereo arena for quite a long time and have NEVER had an airbag blow on me whether or not I removed the terminal(s) on the battery or not. :Beer

No, sorry I do not. I do not own any Gen 2's, only Gen 1's.

THE WHEEL AND PLACE IT ASIDE, GET A DECENT WHEEL PULLER AND LEARN HOW TO USE IT SEE MY EARLIER POST, DO NOT PULL OUT THE THREADS, AND BY THE WAY THERE ARE TWO MAKERS OF OEM STEERING WHEELS, AND THEY MAKE THE SAME WHEELS FOR MOST ALL OF THE DOMESTIC CARS OF ALL TYPES THE SAME METAL HAS BEEN USED FOR DECADES, PROFESSIONALS KNOW HOW TO USE THE TOOLS, YOU CAN LEARN TOO.
