Geez! Forgot I still had this thing. I think my code was EPB2. But if you know a shop that can program the chip, this is a great starting point for CHEAP to get some basic tuning done. Has a dial so you can pop the chip in then with remote dial change programs. Apparently you can do so when driving, but I dont recommend it.

Anyway, may as well try to sell it yet again to a serious buyer. Serious = money. Not 1000 questions :) But I will certainly answer a few in the thread.

Or maybe make it a prize for something at the next Beach Party if no one wants the thing.

Asking $100 plus shipping. I think I paid $325. For 96 up Fords, I think. For 96 up Marks for sure though.
 
I am a little ignorant as to how these work. It is an empty chip ,with room for four tunes, that is placed into a port on the computer?
 
This chip has 4 programs on it. Performance, Performance +4 degrees, economy and stock. But the tunes were really meant for my setup.

Normally you buy the chip and get tunes put on it they way you want. For example, if you removed the EGR system they would remove it from the tune so you will not get a check engine light.

When buying the chip on its own, like this, you can use the tunes on it (not really recommended) or just take it to a tune shop that can update the chip. A lot of shops can do this cheaply. The hardware is the expensive part.

And yes, it plugs into a port on the computer in the car. The computer needs the ports cleaned. There is a thick protecting varnish on the contacts. But a Brilo pad will clean them up. Then you just insert the chip board and route the cable for selecting tunes.

Its the poor mans first step in car tuning. When you get serious, you buy the expensive Pro Racer software with an XCal tuner and make your own programs and then just re-write the actual computer in the car bypassing the need for a chip.
 
Yes, for you to use the programs on it its best if they match, but some will work. And those programs all have the EGR, AIR and rear O2 sensors deleted. As well as the IMRCs. So its better to have programs written up, which takes about a minute, and then loaded onto the chip.
 
Ya, thats part of the point of having it reprogrammed. To match the computer code.
 
But I can still hook it up and have it tuned at a shop though right
 
Yes. You *could* use the programs I have on it. But the strategy may be off and it may not even start up. So its best to get a few tunes from a shop. I can toss a basic tune together in under 5 minutes. So I shop should not charge for flashing the chip with a few programs. After all, its what they do. Just make sure they have a chip burner for SCT and you should be fine.
 
Well I was planing on having the shop write new tunes for it as long as thats possible then I'm interested
 
You got dibs on it. So ask the shop. Maybe provide the link above. Make sure they can do SCT. If they can, your set. May as well ask em how much to do some programs on it.
 
I had a xcal 2 and took it down to a shop and he doesn't touch anything else despite the fact that it was For my 95 bird and wrote a tune for 85$...... actual dyno tune is 300 though so I'm sure he has the stuff to do a 97 mark......
 
And $85 seems like a rip off. The tunes are easy to do for stock, slightly modified cars.

The 4.6 is 2 and I thought it was a good deal since no one would touch it since they didn't have the program to tune it except him
 
Well let me know if you want it for sure after you talk to him to see if he can flash it with some programs. I take PayPal or Postal MO.
