Hello all,

I have left my 2000 LS pretty stock for 11 years. Intake and lowered springs, that is it.

If I were to get into the custom tunes for my LS, what would you suggest? It sounds like the X3 with a tune from ILLS is the way to go.

Is there anything I should be concerned about when using a custom tune? I want to be smart about a custom tune, I am willing to "pay to play" in order to get the right tune, that will not damage my LS. She runs like day one! But if I can get a little more out of it on performance without trading reliability, I am in. :)

I would appreciate any help you could provide a "newbie"

Thanks in advance
Todd

From what I've read on here. Some cat called Torrie who supposedly has the best tunes for these cars using the xcal. There's multiple threads with this information. And a lengthy one regarding his service that is a good read.

A lot of guys on here will say to use the search button foo'.

ILLS is not going to be able to be reached for awhile, so hes not an option currently.

also by this statement, it actually looks like he did search.

i went with torrie and it worked out alright. fastpartsnetwork.com $150 for three tunes. he just doesnt have the best communication skills

Went with Torrie as well, but i had the complete opposite experience. He replied to my emails just as fast as if we were texting, and helped me every step of the way.

I had a good experience with Torrie as well. Some members dont like how vague he is, but the mans gotta protect his work... My car has been running a Torrie tune for 6 years now. I get better gas mileage, improved trans tuning, and more power...probably. 100K on the tune.

So what is the biggest advantage to Torrie's tune? gas mileage? or Power?

If it is both, is it safe to say that the LS (and prob most factory tuned cars) run rich?

Thanks!

I don't think it would be an issue if he told his customers a little more seeing as the software to makes the tunes for SCT is a few thousand dollars and if I just paid 150 for the tunes I'm not spending another 4 grand to make them a little better...

Not rich, just conservative. Tuners generally dial in a little more timing advance and vary the fuel table (sometimes richer, sometimes leaner). The car may not be as adaptable (drive from alberta to miami) as it was stock, and is likely to be more sensitive to fuel quality.
Opinions go back and forth on power gains. I think there was only one mention where someone did a proper dyno eval. But if you're going on a dyno, might as well pay the dyno owner to make a custom tune. In any case, it's generally the tranny changes that make the biggest difference. So it won't turn into an 11 second car, but will be a more aggressive drive.

Torrie is used by many high-end projects to come in and tune for them, often referred and recommended by SCT themselves.

Torrie. Go with Torrie. I went with ILLS. Never again. My car is tuned back to stock until I shell out the 150 for Torrie's tunes.

i have a 04 v6 ls an am lookin into gettin a tune for it. who do i see and how?

who do i see

well if you have read any of this thread, then you should have your answers. your going to have to check around to see if anybody does tunes for the 6'er, as i dont recall seeing any.

oddball is right. One of the things that Toorie did for me (at my request) was optomize the car for my area. Flat, sea level, hot. I did however go into the mountains one winter with my family, and it was ok..... The summer tires were not happy however.
