Has anyone used the SCT programer on there LS. I was looking at picking one up for my 02. Just looking for any feed back before I drop the coin.....

Thanks

Do a search. There are many threads about the devices as well as tuners

I have one. Shifts are cleaner and faster now, but don't expect the device to change a whole lot

Intake, exhaust, tune(sct)= a pretty nice transformation from stock. Now that I know how nice an ls can drive with some upgrades, I dont think I could drive a stock one.

thats the only performance mod im missing is the sct tuner.

I got one sitting at home... all wrapped up... wait for Christmas

I got it from Torrie. I dropped most of the coin into it but since my parents drop a little into it i cant have it till Christmas. :(

The SCT tune I got has been by far the best upgrade I have gotten. I had Torrie make me some tunes. He worked with me untill I had what I wanted. Firmer shifts, neutral rev limiter raised, more power (not much more), changed the shift points, and SST 1st gear. As an added bonus my gas mileage went from 23.5MPG average (for first 20K miles I had the car) to 25MPG average for the last 90K miles. If you have specific requirements a good tuner can make a good program for you. I recommend Torrie McPhail.

1st gear launch in sst FTW!

It'll also come in handy to remove the pesky CEL from having no cats...

I just want to warn you, if you car pings, it will get a lot worse, with the SCT programmer. If it doesn't, it might start pinging.
I have had the SCT tuner for a while, in and out of the car. Currently, it's not downloaded into the car, cause the damn thing starts pinging at 4000rpms up to redline.

Not to mention, all of my sparkplugs and COPs were changed 10,000 miles ago.

Other than that, i think it's one of the best mods you can do as far as the performance goes. It does make a noticeable amount of difference.

Torrie did 7 tune revisions for me. The first one made the car ping, and the exhaust smelled wierd. He tweaked it and that problem went away. And yes I am very happy about SST 1st gear start. It is part of the European calibration, but Torrie said that it doesn't work with every PCM. Horray for me it works.

I don't think it's worth buying a new unit, but if you find a nice used XCAL 2 definately worth it. I bought my XCAL 2 used about 6 months ago and have been happy with it.

Torrie and Quik made the monthly SCT dealer newsletter a while back - Quik's little burnout vid was featured on their web site for a while.

Both the XCal2 and Livewire allow you to wire in other sensors - I wired my wideband and boost guage in - which allows that data to be mixed into the data stream - so it's all one data group.

How many miles on your ls? No pinging when stock tune is loaded?

It just turned over 95,000. It was fine all summer, no pinging at all with the stock tune, but i was playing around in SST mode the other day and i noticed it's back again. From what I can tell, the colder it gets outside, the pinging gets worse.
