For the past week or so the drivers seat controls have been Intermittent in there operation. The passenger side works just fine. I'm kinda thinking the switches on the door panel are probably dirty. Earlier today when I tried to adjust the drivers side seat I heard what sounded like an electrical short, but I couldn't exactly pinpoint the noise. I believe their is a 20 amp circuit breaker near the starter relay, but if that was the problem wouldn't both seat controls be affected. Have any of you had this problem. I think I'll go by the library tomorrow and check out the wiring diagram. Any input would be great.

Happy New Year Lindsay.
I have yet to loose control of my seats (touches wood, chants, burns Chevy manuals to the Lincoln gods). When trouble shooting stuff like this, I start at the fuses then move to the switch and then to the component. Of course, when doing this, the problem is normally the last thing I check :)

lol...Yeah, the seat control can be just as bad as the side mirror controller.
At the factory they put some of what's called "Di-Electric Grease" on the component contacts. But with age, resistance and moisture, the grease can get corroded and cause a short circuit. Which could also indicate a bad seat motor.
A lot of side mirror switches short out because the damned things are located directly under the cup holders...lol. All of those condensation drips from that 7 eleven Coke cup fall right into the switch area. :Beer
If you're so inclined, take the power seat switch panel out, take it apart (carefully..lots of little springs and pieces) and have a look at the connector assembly. I'll bet they're fried or disintegrated on edges.
If you're not so inclined, just buy a new/used seat switch assembly from a junk yard or on ebay. They don't cost too much.

I had similar problems with mine. I actually went out to a junkyard and got another one but before I put it in I sprayed electronic cleaner in the switch while I was moving it. It seemed to free it up and has been working fine ever since.

As I was moving the power seat controls up and down and all around I heard a faint ticking noise in the top of the trunk area. I had a friend pinpoint the noise after I dropped the carpet down in the trunk to expose the control units and speakers, and as I moved the switches back and forth he stated the tickin noise was coming from a black electrical box just near the rear passenger side speaker. I havent cleaned the swithes yet I'll clean them tomorrow. Any more comments Please

I have been having intermittent problems ever since
the car got semi-flooded (up into the carpet at least).
The motors underneath are the problem, there; need a
bit of "goosing" to get them off the dime. The lumbar
pump is well and truly f*cked since I didn't begin working
it until much later; the seat motors, seem to have
gotten back to pretty normal with enough exercise.

Try just "rocking" the switch back & forth between
opposite directions on whatever function. If it starts
go after a dozen tries or something you may have a
similar problem to mine. I know I'm going to have to
pull that seat, lube and hand-free-up the lumbar
pump motor and will hit the rest of them as PM.

Well I bought some contact cleaner to clean the seat controls switches. When I took the trim off around the controls and the four screws pulled out the switches and the wire connector was disconnected. I went ahead and cleaned the switches anyway, and now the seats work fine. I feel like a dummy. DUH!!

hehe.. . yeah, wires not plugged in will cause a problem everytime. =P

I wonder why someone did that? They musta forgot to plug it in, thought the seat was broken then sold the car. lol. People are a trip.
