 was wondering if anyone else had this problem... i just went outside to get some stuff from my car and when i opened the back door i noticed the back panel of the front driver seat was broken off. the panel is held by 2 plastic lips and they were both broke, how in the hell does this happen? i'm not a big guy either just 157lbs and i bought the car brand new it's an 03. does anyone know if warranty will still cover this? and if not any guess on how much a new back panel will cost? nice to know that cheap quality was put into our expensive cars, and my damn dash keeps rattlin too  thanks guys

I just got one of the panels from max @ Five Star Ford...price should be under $90 shipped to your door. 1-800-866-1520 ext 236

tell him your from LVC...good luck

My passenger seat panel is loose, and I have something rattling in my dash too. I took the radio, AC controls, and vents out. I can't find anything loose but that is where the sound is coming from.

I had to visit the dealership for that same problem about 3 months ago. The driver's side seat back just came loose (two clips at the top broke). The dealer entered the problem as "seat does not function properly" and put in for a new part... fixed without charge. Now here's the rub. Friday I leave work and notice that the passenger seat back has now done the same thing. Now I have to miss work and make another trip to the dealership (25 miles) to get this fixed. Poor design for sure.

Had the same problem on driver side. Seat automatically slides back after u turn the key to the "off" postion. If there is anything behind the seat obstructing the path there is a good chance that you will break a clip. My #1 problem was leaving my folding rear seat down after removing key. Add this to the long list of flaws. If only the headrest were attached to the back deck insted of the folding part.

well i had the same issue but then i found out that the back seat when i turned off my car and removed the key the seat went back to the ready easy access the seat used to get cought by my sons car seat and then ripped appart its not poor design its just that it got cought with something - now since this happened to both your seats maybe someone or something is getting cought or pulling on the back of your seat cousing it to break....

Both of my seat backs popped off at the top, but I was able to remove them and reinstall for a factory fit. My clips did not break.

I will check to see if there is something under the seats catching on that back piece. I do not have the v8 so my seats do not have the memory positions and do not go back when I remove the key. I came out after work one day and the seat had broken... it wasnt that way when I drove to work. Dealer will fix it for me but I just have to get down there during business hours.

Are you sure the top parts are actually "broken"..doesnt look like it.

In the lower middle, there are two similiar parts but have more of a hook. These hooks hook around the thin metal bars that run vertically on each side of the seatback. Squeeze the seatback in, and it will disengage these hooks.

Now all you have is two black plastic "buttons" that snap the lowest portion of the seatback against the seat. these buttons usually break, and you can get replacements at the dealer.

The seatback should now come completely off. To properly put back on..slip the top part inside the squarish "holes" in the metal part of the upper part of the seat, then squeeze the sides to get the hooks engaged into the aforementioned metal rods.

I have on 03 ls v8 and my passenger seat back popped off last summer, yes the tabs broke. the service manager at the dealer said that it was such a common problem on the ls that they stock those parts. the passenger seat doesnt move back automatically, didnt get caught on anything just broke most likely to not being strong enough.

I have this problem on my 04. Guess I will have to take it in to the dealer. Was going to epoxy and stiffen it with some metal strips. But guess I'll save that for when I get out of warranty.

I think mine popped when I had an ice chest in the back seat and it moved while driving.

PITA,

Interesting..perhaps the 03+ models have a different setup. The pieces on the 00-02's are VERY strong plastic tabs..I've had my seatbacks off and on about 5 times each side now...with the only broken parts being the black plastic fasteners that go at the bottom...and those were my fault, and replaceable.

Never heard of this being a common problem until this thread..

I was waiting for this to come up in a thread, and had never gotten around to posting it myself. My PS seat back has been loose since I got the car (an 01 V8). It doesn't fall back as far as the one in the picture, but there is a noticable gap at the top. If I smack it back into place it will stay for a while, but then pops out again. It doesn't appear as though any of the clips are broken, they just wont hold in place for some reason. Before I bought this one I test drove an '00 and the same thing had happened to it. The previous owner of mine tried some double-sided tape, and it doesn't hold anymore. I'll explore it a little more to see if i can get something to stay put and keep the panel as tight as the other side. If anyone else comes up with anything, let us know, it sounds like a common problem that nobody has bothered bringing up.

push in, and at the same time, push UPWARDS so the hooks can catch better into the holes.
