So i took my car to Gateway again last friday. I ran the same thing but with one difference. I used seafoam earlier that day.

Remember last time i went to the track my times ranged froma 1551 - 15.7

First time down the track my car seemed kinda sluggish and not up to par. Got my time slip and ran a 16.02   Needless to say i was enraged. I thought this seafoam stuff was supposed to help not kill my times.

So thinking of ways to get my times better me and my buddy decided to pull the airfilter...So running without the air filter kicked my time up to 15.58, which is my second overal best so far.

Last run of the night: 2:30 in the morning im tired, i wanna make this last run and be on my way (i live 45 min from the track) I pull up to the water box next to a 69 camaro, that sounded mean as hell, fully built with slicks and everything. not to mention this car was just beutrful.
Earlier in line I was talking to the guy, but he would not give me his times. he said youll just have to wait and find out. So at the waterbox we both lit up our tires, I glanced over to see him smiling at me. We both held the burnout for a good 30 seconds. (trying to beat each other) I finally gave out with smoke surrounding the entire box and stands (crowd going crazy) I dropped it into 1st, got torqued up to about 1800. and then... oh no...
I Heard the most dreadfull sound... My tires broke loose.. Yellow light comes up i let off gas hurry up and torque it up again as soon as the green light comes on. and i spun... Kickin my self in the head while going down the track.

IM thinking this is going to be the worst run of th enight. got my timeslip. Looked at the 60'.. oh no 2.9????ouch..

Look at the 1/4 15.21 :) :) :) :) :) :shifty: :D And as suprised as i am the Camaro only beat me by .447 seconds

So im happy. also kinda curious how it is taht i spun, got the worst 60' iv ever seen and still came out at my personal best.

srry for the long post

glad you had a good time - if you want to improve your 60 foot, I would suggest not doing a burnout. Street tires don't get stickier from burnouts, and in fact, it can reduce the traction of a lot of tires. Just do a quick spin to clean the dirt and rocks off of them, and stay out of the waterbox altogether.

The pics are really cool :)

I agree. Burnouts on street tires are worthless. All you'll do is pick up whatever the last guy's burnout left behind.

Either way, good stuff.

Ive learned that with street tires, do a little burnout to clean them, say if the pit area is dirt(like my track). When you light up your street tires like that, it fcks up your traction, makes the tires more slick than anything. The fastest time I ran was with no burnout. Did you try turning trac assist and overdrive off? You should be able to run consistent 15.2's just by following some of these pointers.

Shouldn't the Overdrive \ turn off automatically?

How much does that help when having the OD off, and another question idk if my car has the trac assist isent there a button to turn it on and off if i did have it or is it allways on against my will I looked over my cars manual and options and i dident see it on there idk.

it changes the shift points, and on my car at least, raises the speed limiter.

so for GEN 2 you don't have to push the button, right?

no idea, never driven one....but it's not going to turn itself off, if that's what you mean.

Trap speed was 92 i believe,

and also, you have to press the O/D button to turn it on and off.

BTW: when shifting manualy on this particular run i got what i thought was the perfect shift, Felt the car jerk into second with a backfire from the motor.

Also i just orderd the LMS MAF and supercoupe performance shift kit

leave it in drive.... the car will shift at it's optimal shift points.

actually, in drive it shifts just before the red line....i lose 2 to 3 tenths if i leave it in drive instead of shifting manually...

Well, I seem to ride out first longer than the car wants to, and it hits the rev limiter. That will be fixed soon though.:D

when i did my 14.6 i left it in drive with OD off.

the previous time i ran i found leaving it in drive returned better ETs

slightly more consistent also...

i might have to give running it in drive a chance again. when i first got the car i seemed to turn better times shifting. i know it is more consistent to run with it in drive. i am going to go out and run it tonight to see how it turns .

OK so i found the slips for the track on tuesday, and it goes from earliest to latest. (note that i had atleast a 45 min cool down for every run)

1/8... 10.393
MPH... 68.63
1000... 13.461
1/4... 16.029
MPH... 88.07

2nd run (same)

60'... 2.336
330... 6.796
1/8... 10.38
MPH... 69.40
1000... 13.399
1/4... 15.918

1/8... 10.156
MPH... 70.95
1000... 13.116
1/4... 15.587

1/8... 10.168
MPH... 77.17
1000... 12.893
1/4... 15.241
MPH... 95.86

So heres my question. if i wouldnt have spun, and would have gotten a propper 60' somewhere in the 2.3's what would i have ran? my goal is to get into the 14's without mods.

It is extremely difficult to prognosticate 1/4 mile ETs when spinning is involved. The first two lessons I learned when I started racing at the track is heat soak and lack of traction destroy consistency and any hopes of good ETs. Generally speaking, when you have a loss of traction, and regain traction down the track, your early times are much slower, your final times somewhat slower and your trap speed is usually actually higher.

It is similar to a slingshot effect on the car. You are loosing time while spinning and when you regain traction you accelerate more quickly but usually not enough to make up for your early losses. The quicker acceleration often means you enter the traps at a higher speed than normal. But to actually quantify the difference is very, very difficult and varies wildly.
