Looking at Quarterhorse , Tweeker and SCT. I want NO chips. Anyone run these and how much$?

with the exception of the 96 i thought all gen 1 had to be chiped because of pre obd2.

I use an sct handheld. you can find them from 100-400 dollars on ebay. then you need the pro racer software if ya want to do your own tunes or you order tunes and use them on your car. some of the tunes can have the options left open for adjustment right on the hand held.

The QH is no chips. Thats why I want that setup. But I don't think it 100% supports mk8's.

 what does no chip mean? either way, you still have a chip plugged in, and it still stays if you want the tune.
the TwEECer and Quarterhorse are just more powerful chips.

the best way to do it that i could come up with was TwEECer RT or Quartehorse and tune til the car runs great,
then export and burn a chip with SCT Pro Racer so you can use the TwEECer elsewhere.
you don't want it tied down to one car. expensive, but you pay to play.
tuning is not cheap. people wonder why a tune is expensive? there is a reason.

the cheaper option is straight to Pro Racer and datalog, tune, datalog, tune, repeat til the car runs good. you don't have realtime benefits of the RT or QH, but its doable.

i haven't got my TwEECer RT to work with my 93 yet. i was going to get a different computer to try, as the 94 or 95 computers are supposed to be supported.

worked brilliantly on our 89 SHO though. its fun to watch CalCon and CalEdit do there thing.

allegedly with the quarterhorse, you can pull anything you need right off the computer with the software that runs it. binary editor i believe.

Ok for some that don't know. QH is not a "chip" so called. A "chip" is burnt and then installed and cannot be modified. The QH unit plugs on like a chip but then you run cable from QH to a computer and tune and live data and data log from it. NO chip burner needed. I want to be able to tune live while engine is RUNNING. As you know I'm not looking to spend 1000 dollars on SCT PRO to change some shift point so that's NOT a cheaper way. QH goes for about 350 dollars.

I bought a tweecer rt for less than that even. I have read of people tuning Mark's with them. So that's the route I will probably go. I'm just looking for the compatible computer.

Some people don't like the cal can cal edit combo, that is usually run with the tweecer, but binary editor is supposed to work with both. But it's not free like cal con and cal edit.

Info on this is hard to find. I've looked.

And I never it was cheaper. None of this is cheap.

New Tweeker RT is 450 dollars. Do you know who the mk8 tweeker RT users are? I read QH is way better then RT and like you mentioned they say cal can is buggy. Also are the tweeker users have 4R70W or a manual trans? I need this mostly for shift points.

I don't have any experience with the Moates, but I did run a Tweecer R/T in my Thunderbird, but I was using a mustnag ECU. This was back in 2002 before much of the tuning information that is availiable today was "public" knowledge, and I still thought it was fairly easy to use and excellent for on the fly datalogging and tune changes. There were a few cal con updates that broke stuff back then...not sure if that still happens, but once I created a tune with lets say V3 (I don't remember what it actually was) but I still had 2 tunes created in V2 on the box/chip, caused my car to run like crap till they came out and said that the new software would cause issues with old tunes.

I'd message Craig (Moates) and Mark (Mansur) about Quarter Horse and Tuner Pro RT. See what is available, be converted.

If you could get a QH setup for your strategy code, That's what I would recommend.

I hope you can get it. I have seen some live tuning with the QH and it looks pretty awesome.

Thanks me too. Then I can let all others out there know its out there now. I'm still not 100% sure yet I have to DL a CRY. file which my computer can't at this time. I looked at this years ago and no mk8's using it unless they put manual trans in car.

I've been using the SCT PRP since '07, and I'm happy with it, but I wired my car with a OBD-II system. I'd certainly suggest the QH route for a OBD-I system, provided you're able to get necessary files.

LOL I was thinking of stripping all wiring from the 97 I parted and putting it into my 93. But if I can get QH up and running much easier.

You need to get in touch with sailorbob to get the strategy for your ECU. Mine is $20 unlocked.

I have rebuilt my system and I can't find his address but here is a forum he is on:

Somewhere on Moates site there is a link.

An unlocked strategy will allow you to do what ever you want and you can create in the QH memory 4 different setups/chips which you can switch with your laptop or a switch you can buy.

Some more:

I see you have sailorbob in the loop. You should grad the free Binary Editor which you can load into the read-only strategy to play around with. That will give you a good idea about what is going on and what can be changed in the ECU. When you get the write version, that's what you pay sailorbob for, you can then make changes to the strategy.

You hook up the QH to your ECU, it's permanently installed, and run a USB cable to your laptop. With Binary Editor or one of the other programs on the latop, you have control.
