Shaking And Dying Ls :(

Hello all,, im new to this thread......im trying to find out what could be the issue with my LS 00. It shakes allot in idle and has even turned off sometimes at the stop light.. i really think its something to do with the coils.

should i just change the spark plugs, and check the gaskets? could it be a missfire that its making it act like this? or could it be this plus more....

is it a good idea to just change the spark plugs....and deal with leaky seals later?

thanks,, ya thats what im thinking,,, since the oils where changed before...and i keep researching this and thats all it pointing too,, god dammit,,, heheh oh well... so is it true i can go to autozone and have them run the diagnostic to tell me if there is a missfire? ???????

Im thinking of just doing that,,so i can tell which one is the bad boy.... so ya i guess changing the plugs arent really going to do anything? till i get the coils?

Yea...It is probably a coil and plugs won't fix that. However, you want to make sure you don't have oil leaking in there first. It destroyes the coil boot and makes a real mess. If you do have an oil issue, you need to do the gaskets first. You'll have to remove all the coils to check that. Not a bad job.
 
Cool,, thanks! i saw that walk through of the coils on the site,, first thing i did when i got here,, and printed it out heheh . .. thanks i will post what i find...i wont be able to replace the coil any time soon,, how bad is it for the engine to have a miss fire?

If it only misses under heavy load, you should be OK. If it was all the time, you would be getting too much raw fuel in that one cylinder. Also, with a poorly running engine, you want to change your oil more often. That extra fuel will end up in the oil.

You could search your local parts stores for a coil and possibly find one for $38.00 or so. Cheaper than a tank of gas! I realize you still have to find the bad part though.

I love the nickname. Do you have the V8 or V6? Welcome aboard! Everthing listed above should get you right if you have the V8 if you have the V6 it could be the pcv tube. I'll wait to hear back from you about whic engine you have before I scare you wit the rest.
 
If it's missing under load, it could very well be missing under lighter throttle conditions too...but you can't feel it. Loads are where you can really feel a miss. I think if it were me, I would want that fixed as soon as possible. If it isn't giving you a good firing all the time, then the computer will note the bad exhaust readings from the O2 sensor and start fiddling around with your a/f ratios on that side. As a matter of fact, that may be a way to tell what side is missing. Either use a scan tool to take the readings and/or do a balance test, or you may even be able to pull the O2 sensors and see which one looks like the exhaust is not right.

and it could lead to faster wasting of the cats becasue the a/f could be too rich and not buring off all the fuel due to poor timing of the spark
 
OK well i did the comptuer scan nothing but miss fires,, and coils full in oil,, so i changed all the plugs, all the coils, and both valve gaskets, the result.. well now i can see there is power in the engine,, but its like the timing is off.. one wierd thing that did happen, the temp of the engine started to go up! got scared, turned on the heater thinking that will help and it did,, turned off the heater and the temp was gone.. so i dont know whats going on... :( but i do feel the difference in the engine.... but its basically the same...how do you set the timer on the engine?
 
I was just thinking,, after changing the plugs coils, dont you have to reset the computer? how do you do that? anyone has the schematic? Where do i check the timing of the car... i think its at the bottom of the car... anyone has any ideas?

No timing to adjust. Are you sure you have all the connectors plugged in fully and in the right places? Make sure you don't have a hose disconnected also.

somthing els might be rongs but im not to familier with thsi problem
 
so even after the change of the coils a miss can still happen and it can cause overheating like that? it sitll idles like crap.. but i do feel the power of the car way better than it was before,, im just going to take the car next door to the shop..i dont know what else to do .. im at a loss.. i like driving this car,, i want it to live dammit! ;)
 
I had a CEL come on for one of my coils. But when the dealer ran the diagnositc on it, they could see that 2 more coils where going back on there little palm pilot gadget. He showed me and after replacing all my coils my car ran like a charm again.

Ive heard thought that sometime even after replacing the coils people still have problems. But I guess if you are willing to let the dealer run the diagnositc for like $90 they could pin point a problem.

I miss the rail gun. :( I started out in the Quake 1 days. I used to get on a server called Wombat. Man...I haven't played a game for any length for years now. :( What do you play now?

Hey...it's off subject, but it is more positive than the car problem. :)

Ever play any of the Unreal games? Im the founder of one of the first clans to be recognized as #1 TDM. The GoodFellas. Owned Unreal Tournament for awhile till we broke up. BTW I would have the fuel filter changed also.
 
If the fuel filter hasn't been changed in the last 2 years or so, I would replace it. Can't go wrong there. Cheap preventative maintenance. Next I would reset the computer by disconnecting the battery;;;;;;;;;;;;; then reconnect. With all the new parts, Maybe resetting the computer will yield better results as opposed to the bad habits the engine management system has acquired over time to compensate for the worn out ignition system.
