Should cannabis sativa remain illegal? Why?

We just had a smoking ban put in here all bars, restaurants, businesses, etc. I'm an occasional cigarette smoker (wierd I know) but it doesn't bother me that much. When I'm at the bar, I just step outside, get some air for a few minutes, have a smoke, then go back to drinking. As far as weed, I'm sure if it was legal it would only be in your home and in designated places. I heard in Amsterdam you can't just smoke wherever you want, you have to be in a private place that allows it. I heard there's a medical marijuana bill that passed the house here in IL. Hopefully it passes fully. I have a friend that could grow I'm sure...

I suspect "medical marijuana" will go the way of Ritalin.

"Doc, I need a prescription."

"Sure! Sign here."

the state goverments can legalized it like in California. But if the federal goverment catches you with it. They will still prosecute you. I read in the Tulsa paper awhile back about a woman in San Fransico that has Scoliosis. She has a medical marijuana card from the state but the federal goverment is trying to prosecute her for possesion.

it should either be legal or illegal. not legal then you get caught with it and get in trouble. there are so many factors that go into legalizing marijuana, and you know the government will not miss 1 factor

Welcome to the world where the Fed gov encroaches on the rights of the States.

In my opinion, legalize it, tax it(like cigarettes), and pay off our national/state debts rather than continuing "fund terrorism" and throwing people not really guilty of anything terrible in jail(wasting taxpayer money and otherwise upstanding citizens). I don't smoke, but in my opinion it doesn't smell as bad as cigars or cigarettes do. And although the second hand smoke can "affect" others, its not know to cause adverse health problems that cigarettes do. I dunno about you but, I'd rather be slightly intoxicated, than "slightly" have lung cancer. Plus smoking pretty much in any public place is starting to get banned(read: wtf? You cant smoke in a bar....in Scranton, PA) anyway, so I don't think 2nd hand smoke will be that big of a deal.

The only problem with that idea is that once you create a new tax, it has to be enforced. That means a new agency, or a new department within the ATF more likely. When that happens, this new department will want to stay in power, so the more revenue it can get, the better. That means that the more people who smoke weed, the more revenue they get, and the less people who smoke weed, the less revenue they get. So now you have a government agency dependent upon people smoking weed, and therefore an incentive to keep weed-smoking at a certain level.

It's a recipe for corruption.

from a potthead to a political dude
that sounds pretty damn good
well put u kinda put in in view

I can see that but you have to look at the OTHER things that Gov't sanctioned marijuana can be made into... Look at the potential profit for all the Hemp products if it were more mainstream!

Ohh and I FULLY support the no smoking ban in bars, restaurants and clubs.
Smoking Cigarettes are gross

it all depends how you ask the question, do you want to 'legalize' it?, or do you want to 'decriminalize' it?

i say decrimnalize it!
