Should I buy a MarkVIII?

Gears are a PITA for these cars compared to others if you take it to a shop expect around 700 if you dont want to touch the car. Tune will prob be around 400. Exhaust just take it to an exhaust shop locally tell em you want to run an xpipe inplace of the 3rd cat. Buy the mufflers of your choice, 2 tips, and have them do all the bending and welding. Cobra intake you can find used for about 300-400 you need one for a 96-98 cobra. U/D pulley i dunno what the price is since i haven't done it myself.

You could spend about 1500 in mods to get where you want to be. Don't forget to get a driveshaft if you do gears. You can look for a 93 driveshaft(the only year it was a 1 piece) and have it balanced at a machine shop or buy an aftermarket one.
 
if you dont want to go crazy just do gears, T-lok, driveshaft,tune and U/D pullies i would guess all of this would cost 1500ish installed but i am just pulling that number out of my @ss lol. that would be plenty to smoke the tires!
 
I don't know where you are located but at GearHeads in Arlington (DFW) Texas, gear install on a IRS is about $4-500 parts and labor.
 
if you go 3/73 you wont need a tune, and you should do IRS braces and Kmember braces first mod, get that body tough to handle any extra HP you toss at it
 
Im suprised nobody said anything about a higher stall torque converter.
