Can anyone recommend a good auto repair shop near Downers Grove IL. I would even prefer a local member who could do repair jobs for me on my 98LSC.

You could just try your luck at any repair shop and when they screw it up spend more money at the dealer to get it done right....

When I lived near Milwaukee I had good luck just walking into the dealership, walking thru to service, picking a mechanic and asking them if they do work from home on the side. Saved alot of money by paying the mechanic's time not the shop.

Funny, it works the other way around here. My local, independent shops have fixed problems on my Marks that our three local FLM houses have messed up. From the first one who screwed up bleeding my brakes (my tire shop had me taken care of in no time) to the guys who goofed that recall (an all-around fix-it shop that I happen to be good friends with the owner took care of that one, having gotten the part from Ford) and the dealership who told me a Motorcraft part was not a Ford part... yeah, I have little faith in our stealerships.

Of course, the trick is, I educate myself on what needs done and ensure that the guys at the shop are aware of what they are working on. The dealers just have a tendency to think "oh, it's too old, get it out of here and tell the customer to get a new car."

I need the idler pulley, belt tensioner, & serp belt replaced. I believe also the shock mounts need to be changed, because every time I go over a bump or dip in the roads I hear a creeking noise in the suspension.

Anyone who has posted can do this job for you ... Just bring it to their house get the parts from Max at 5 star ... Most would do it for free...

Bring it here and I'd do it for you.. but that's about a 3.5 hour drive.

It is real simple job. Do not go to the dealer.

Does anyone want to do it for me? I don't feel like paying a dealer $125.00 an hour for these repairs.

The noise you're hearing could also be a broken sway bar. Id check the most obvious of the sway bar and if it's in one piece its bushings.

*just fell over* lol
uhhhh if you want to pay dealer prices, (and we not $125 per hour) drive it out to dekalb and ask for chicken :waving: i CANT do side work there but if you got a space and the price is right i might be willing to travel, work has been slow, gotta do something.......... but bringing it to me would be preferred.

The creeking in the suspension is only really heard when its cold outside. I know Dekalb is not that far from me, but I prefer someone a little closer to work on the Mark. I was thinking Addison, Lombard, Carol Stream area.

chicken do you work at a ford dealer?I still havent gotten the recall done cause I dont want any of these dealer hacks touching my car-I would bring it out to Dekalb to have you do it:)

2 places come to mind
1. Muffler and brake man- bloomingdale right next to carol stream, il
ask for sanjay, he does all my inlaws cars. They do everything there and he is cheap
2. tech auto in downers grove il they are pretty good as well and reasonable

i'd take mespock or chicken up on there offer. . I'd say i could do it but a 2 hour job usually turns into a all nighter.
