Since the LS has dual cats...

I realize that, but my old 4.0 V6 Explorer sounds like it has more behind it than my V8 LS.

The factory exhaust on the LS is very restrictive. But even with flowmasters the LS doesn't have that typical American V8 rumble. It has a euro sound.

I know about the rev limiter. I just think it's a crap idea. I miss the look on the driver's face when he realizes he's putting his rice-burning 4-banger against something that has 4 more cylinders.

And even a small V8 can sound like it has a pair...

Its a great idea, the rev limiter is there to protect the torque converter, and keep the trans from over heating at idle from over reving.... I get it, you want my balls are bigger than yours sound but realistically the look at that kids face will be better if he didnt hear what he's against, I guess I'm more the sleeper look but hey to all their own.

Not point having loud exhaust if you cany back it up.

Its a V8, but new V6's are putting it to shame.

Link, please?

you can clearly see that it is a three dimensional chamber, not a flat stamped piece of metal.

I'm really not sure what else you would call a big chamber with a couple of layers of honeycomb material in it.

Well this escalated quickly. :)

Here's the deal this car can sound however you want it to sound. I like loud as **** and wouldn't trade my system for anyone's on here, I like it more, that's why I put it together. Do what sound you want, and trust me even with the rev limiter you can hear me rev from blocks away. I can hear it idle from inside my house

The rev limiter has no business being removed. Also you won't get exactly the old classic sound due to it being an overhead cam with stock duration. If you put a set of long duration cams and a set of headers and 3 inch pipe it may sound like a 60's bad ass ride. But no one make cams or headers anymore for this car (as far as I know never on the cams)

You're right, I should have prefaced my post with a 'On my '05... I wonder why they used several different exhaust setups, Cali maybe?

Awesome, thanks! So it would seem that the "redesign" for 2006 included a third cat in that location, which backs what BlackLS06 has experienced.

Neither of my '06s has that piece. Their systems are exactly like the one on the '00.

except for mine is a early 03, which is first of the 2nd gens, its fricken weird because it doesn't seem to matter when its made. the only thing i can think of is that it has to be region related, but ive seen both versions more than once here (i guess it is possible for them to travel all over, just wish somebody really knew the answer)

even weirder, i would think if anything, the peoples replublic's cars would be the ones to have the third cat.

Why would I want to do that?.... never mind, 'cause I wouldn't.
well that is what was being talked about when you quoted black

I guess I'm used to being able to rev the engine when it's in park or neutral.
it does not rev past 3K due to the rev limiter.
They must have screwed up mine as it will rev to 6.5k before it cuts out.

the OP clearly knows that his cars rev limiter in drive is not 3K RPMs if he has ever driven the car

Just to add to the confusion...

My 04 has the "three cat setup" and the hood label says it is California LEV certified for 04.

My 06 does not have the third cat, and the hood label says it is California ULEV certified for 06.

ULEV = Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle

anyone have a link for separating the manifold from the heads .....headers don't hear you talking about headers no room?

noticed a small h pipe on mine not sure if that was stock when you listen to ls talk they sometimes talk about enough already with stock manifold but there is also talk of tall deck and such so I assume its later in the coyote
