So I was on vacation and the home we're staying at had a massive incline. After scraping as i exited, the plastic pieces under the car started to fall off as i was going down the road. They were scraping like crazy. I had to find a shop on the side of the road and ask them to just remove it.

It was 3 pieces removed. One was under the radiator, about 3 feet long. Another was behind the radiator. About 3 foot long, 8 inches wide. And the other was, according to the guy who removed it, under the alternator.

the guy that removed them said it was absolutely imperative that they be replaced immediately, especially the one under the alternator in case of rain.

Is this really the case? I want to replace them, but I don't even know what to ask for or how much this is going to cost?

Any ideas?

Yes, you do need those shields. You can take a picture under the car where the shields are missing and post that, but it would probably be simpler for you to go to a dealer and have them look. This assumes that those parts are still available. You may have to go to a junkyard to get them.

What do I do if those parts are unavailable and I can't find a junked LS anywhere?

I was lucky enough to get one of these shields from a local dealership that was clearing out their stock (2 years ago). Got this for $8. This is the driver side shield you may be looking for.

He may well need that one too, but the alternator is on the passenger side...

look harder...

there are LS's in junk yards all over the place, if you can't find one, then you're not looking hard enough.

Ditto, and I think most are held in with plastic push pins so maybe they are not ruined and just need installed.

I guess I haven't looked hard enough because I have yet to find anything. I just went on a trip that was 16 hours of driving, some of which was in the rain, and all turned out ok. I'll still keep looking. Maybe something will turn up

Parts Sources for the Deflectors

The deflectors you need look like they are available through FordPartsGiant.com, or the smaller deflectors look like they are available at the ebay store: ford-parts-depot. Go to "Body and Paint - Front Body System - Air Deflectors, Front" and you will see the parts listed on (on FPG).

I use these guys a lot when I am sourcing obsolete parts, or I just don't want to pay dealer prices. You'll be looking at the base part numbers 17626A for the large stone deflector and one each of 8349AA (Alternator) and 8349BA for the LH side. They also list the hardware.

Ford Parts Giant used to have pictures available, but they don't anymore so I usually check ford-parts-depot or go to fordparts.com to see if I can get a look at a diagrams/picture to make sure that I am ordering the correct part.
