Smoking engine - woo hoo

so this morning i hear the alternator belt squeeking a bit. later in the day i'm on the highway and see smoking coming from the engine bay.. assuming that during the last tune up the belt wasn't lubricated and the friction casued the smoke?
 
where I come from you don't "grease" belts. sounds like you may have another problem.
 
Check the tension first. And if it was smoking, inspect it. It probably needs to be replaced.
 
and remember friction is a good think on a belt...the more the better. they're not designed to slide....
 
and there is no 'alternator belt' - it's all one big serpentine belt.
 
i would say your cam cover gaskets are leaking. When they leak the leak onto the exhaust manifolds, hence the smoke.
