Replacement bulbs Gen1 @ J.C. Whitney ?

Have doubts about company, but they do say they have them for $90 a piece!
Bulbs Here

HIDs can be had for cheap. 89 is not bad. But, these are NOT 9500 HIDs like in a Mark. A HID is not universal. The link is to D2R and DS2 which I dont think will work. Also the link shows for 1993 - No HID were even made for US cars in 93, the late 95 Mark VIII was the very first US produced vehicle to have HIDs.

Yeah but that bulb looks just like the burned out one that I have sitting on my bench still hooked to the Ballast

Just pointing out what I found.

I have gen2, but noticed gen1 owners were having issues with replacement bulbs.
Can do a model specific search from link!:)

Okay, that link from just before to JCWhitney.com for those capsules will not work. Those are AC. The Mark uses DC. If you have DC to AC ballasts, then yes they would work if you also modified the housings and even then they would not be right because the focal point would be off. This is sorta what I thought and what someone from anther forum told me when I asked.

The second "conversion kit" link will have the same problem. Halogen housings are NOT designed to be used with HID. Sure, you will have light but it will be scattered and focused wrong.

And the Gen I and Gen II capsules are technically the same. Mid-97 they switched to a plug and go capsule versus the attached ballast. But the capsules themselves can be purchased and used in a gen I or II with little to no work. See here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/wviands/storage/car/hids/hid.html

In short, you will NEED the right HID capsule for the right job, there are no short-cuts.

Yes there are. I investigated the HID bulb and focal point debate for about 2 years as I had Projection lights in one of my cars. Focal point is of utmost importance in that situation.

However on my 96' Mark LSC housings I was able to use the DS2 style bulbs and ballasts out of a Lexus with slight modification to the housings. The light output is great! The bulbs are available and cheap if one does go out for some reason. So yes focal point is still a factor but it is not as big a factor with the Gen1's that I have ;)

love the answer to whats next, the pile of cars in the hills, that was good!!!
I want to get to my local wrecking yard and snap a pic or the 5 Mark VIII's they have sitting there:D

Of course all are missing the headlights :shifty:

ford needs a swift kick in the @#&

rediculoud that a headlight bulb is not available, gotta have lights, they burn out, and they break when you "JACK" you car into another, so why!!!

I am gonna go down to my local "POT" growing place and put 2 500 watt high pressure sodiums up front, that L showem !!:D :D :D :D :D :D

That would be a rare mod there , someones gonna do it now :p :p :p

But they are available. They were extinct for a while, but like a bad Jurassic Park movie, once extinct they are now around again. But who know for how long.

I bet the next thing that will be impossible to get will be front air-spring. Sure, there are reman but not one of these seems to either hold up or have a new shock portion, just the bag replaced.
