Hello... I have a problem.. or well problems to be honest.. just got my car friday.. but its okay.. cuz i love it. I had the smart idea of cutting the mufflers off my car.... okay... so I get one cut off... after 2 blades... a tourch... and a inexperianced person doin it.. that just before.. told me he could do it no matter what... lol... silly me. Anyways.. I've been running around with 1 muffler off.. and 1 on.. and that night... my car started messing up... it runs CLEAN in the lower rpms.. but once I hit 5... 5 1/2... it starts hesitating and just won't hit the redline.... which makes me think.. this is all due to one side either having backpressure and the other not.. or my car can't have the mufflers off? Kinda need to know what to do here.. cuz I need to either weld the other muffler back on.. or cut it off today.. so can these cars run good without mufflers? Thats the only thing taken off the stock exhaust system.

Lastly.. my radio wasn't playing... btw.. i have the JBL sound system in my car.. from the factory.. Anyways.. I noticed it wasn't workin.. so I bought the tools and pulled the head unit out of the dash... and it wasn't hooked up.. I though to myself.. idiots.. lol.. I hooked it up.. and it automatically came on.. and made hissing and screeching sounds... not like the ones from a staticey radio stations.. but like something is wrong somewhere... any ideas.. maybe bad head unit.. bad amp?

Oh.. I am so sorry... DER... lol. Its a 1996 "LSC"... according to the sales man.. I'm guessing that just stands for Luxory Sports Coupe? either way It has no badges saying its a lsc.. so i'm guessing he was easily confused on these cars.. either way.. i talked him down to more in my price.. either way.. its a 96 model... i changed the oil and added a fuel additive.. and oil additive.. so am I runnin out of fuel in the upper end all the sudden? It was doing fine.. till I cut the one muffler off.. then it started acting up.. maybe its because one muffler is on.. and one is off?

Also.. can I get a replacement piece for my driver side mirror.. the mirror piece.. or am I going to have to get a whole assembly.. and have it painted... i'm sure theres a way to replace just the mirror piece.. right?

If you remove the mirror from the car you will see some screws at the bottom that allow you to remove the glass and adjuster motor set up, the plug is down in the door aways, don't cut the wires cuz I've seen it done before.

okay.. well that takes care of one problem i'm having.. just find a new glass somewhere.. i'm hoping that old caddy i have out my granma's yard will have right about the same size... wait.. it might be a town car... I think it is... anyways.. hopefully some of the stuff from there will fit. Thank ya so much.. 1 down... 3.. maybe 4 to go!

The static noise is the amp. Is it really loud? Prolly the amp. My 96 did the same and the on/off botton broke. So i got a cheap head unit and got a friend to pull the amp out and bypass it. Still sounds really good tho. yeah. And i doubt its a lsc with no badges. check the exhaust. If it has true duels then maybe. And see if has HIDs. Post some pictures too! And just get a lms exhaust or something. I hear its bad to have messed up back pressure and i messed up a valve or something trying to run ONLY headers.

oh okay.. well that suxs... I was really hoping it was the head unit itself... cuz the on and off button broke on it... but now that I know its a amp... i see some of them selling for like 10 bucks... bad thing is.. i don't have paypal. New problems tho.. I got my muffler off... now it sounds pretty good! Bad thing... i'm smelling something like rotten eggs... and the hesitation has gone from upper rpm range... to lower... like 2-3k.. it will hesitate only if I mash the gas more than 3/4.... so i'm guessing a stopped up cat... or bad gas... could cause a problem like this.... anyone else have this problem... and know how to fix mine?

I forgot to add too.. I've lost about 4-5 mile a gallon.. taking my mufflers off did that bad? If so... i'm taking them friday and getting them welded back on.. and just taking the resonators off... so hopefully the loss in mpg is related to my problem.

I was reading another post.. and they said something about an altinator being the problem of his hesitation... well mine just started hesitating like.. instantly.. I went WOT and it was fine.. like 5 mins later.. did that and it stuttered... it doesn't explain the rotten eggs though... maybe just bad gas.. and its all a big coincidence.. and its really my altinator.. i'll have it tested today at autozone. Is there any kind of test to do on your cats to tell if thier bad or not?

Bump.. I really need some advice guys... I put some sea foam in the tank last night.. and i'll induce it into the vaccum system tonight. I had my alt checked.. and its runnin 13.9 volts.. so they guy said it could be better.. and could be worse.. so i'm guessing no alt problems...

So now i'm thinking fuel system.. not getting enough fuel up top... maybe a fuel filter or even the fuel pump.. is there any sure fire way to trouble shoot these kinds of things.. I know I can check fuel pressure but i'm hoping someone will see this that has had the same problem... its fine to drive.. but when I wanna romp on it... sometimes from 4-6 is feels like i'm riding a bull.... other times it don't do it... sometimes its only in the 5k range... I need help.. anyone!?

Mine did that once. It was the #4 cyl misfire. I put on new boots some dielectric grease and it was much better.

Hey.. atleast you answered me!! I'm really glad someone else kinda sorta had this problem... everyone i've talked to at work today has said prolly plugs and wires.. so i'm just gunna upgrade and be done with it this weekend... untill then.. no romping... but it will be worth it in the end!! Thanks so much.. i'll let everyone know as soon as i see how the plugs and wires do!!

Your having almost exact problems I had (minus the people not replying, mespock and others were very helpful haha)

For your exhaust: LEAVE EM OFF! Actually my fuel mileage went down 4-5 mpg as well, because I romp it just to hear it!

On the engine and Oil additives: When my 93 started running like crap I kept adding things like that and ended up fouling the spark plugs, but SeaFoam is usually fine. Depending on the mileage you'd want to consider grabbing a set of nology hotwires (talk to Geno aka onebadmk8) or the ford racing 9mm (what I'm getting from Max aka mrzeee) and some autolite 764s.

On your rpms: Same EXACT thing happens to me. It better not be a big deal because I've been driving like that for a few months now. I'm almost certain (I'm no Ford tech or anything but I've read a lot) that adding a walbro 255 and changing the fuel filter would help, it definitely wont hurt. I'm at 115k and thats on my list of things to do this spring.

On the eggs smelling: I have no idea what that means. Maybe romping it too hard gave a little hole in the cat? Removing the mufflers didn't do that for me, ask someone else.

On the alt: Don't let it crap out on ya, that sucked for me when it did.

Hope this helps!

Billy

Oh man.. thank you so much.. finally a person with the same problem as me... I really do appreciate your information here...!

I am defintly replaceing spark plugs this week with 764's... I already have money set aside.. 3.99 isn't bad..

Lol... I think thats whats up with me too.. my fuel mileage has went down because I romp it... the other day on a fairly long trip.. with my spedo set at 57.. i was runnin in the high 23 mpg range.. i went 57-60 ish on 3 gallon.. with enough left to make it to a gas station.

Plug wires... ya.. I think it was Devilchild that said he actually gained a mpg or two with getting those plug wires.. so i'll be checking into them soon!

As far as the rpm.. that sucks man.. i'm slow now.. from a start i'm not.. but get me at like 30-40 and i'm slow.. because when i hammer.. thats the range it'll be in... 4.5-5k... oh well.... no more racing... atleast it'll save my car for me!

So thanks so much for your help and everyone else... and most likely.. in a month or so.. i'll be putting a new fuel pump.. and this weekend a fuel filter.. where exatly is my fuel filter located on a 96 at?

Also.. I was thinking.. instead of making a new topic and crowding people that need thier stuff on here too.. I am lookin to mod my intake tube.. I'm guessing the silencer is on the end of the air box.. that runs down into the bumper? Is that right? Its safe to remove.. and i'm guessing it will flow a .001% better and then theres one other thing to remove... isn't there? I looked for some post.. but mainly is was just people argueing.. and I didn't get any info out of it.. anyone wanna help with out scolding me or argueing?

Whoa now, there are ricers that need to be set in their place. Keep the racing! Haha I haven't noticed any difference and haven't changed habits in the last few months, yours sounds more pronounced than mine though.

The silencer and fuel filter are both located behind the passengers front splash guard. If you have a dremel save yourself some time and saw off the 4 bolts holding the silencer in from under the hood, under the airbox. After that, take off the splashguard (get a set of pliers to remove the clips holding it on, they will break if you dont pull out the center first) and pull that s.o.b out. After that take off the resonator on the top of the intake tube and replace with a 1 1/2" quick cap, and consider shaving off the other resonator thats attatched and seal up that whole. You'll notice when romping it you hear a nice sounding howl. Also consider cutting open the back of your airbox so it can pull air from behind the headlights.

You'll need a scissor type removal tool for the fuel filter, I'm not going to be much help with that because I haven't done mine yet.

Lol... Okay.. I won't cut the racing out.. you know.. I keep having Caddys.. like the mid 90s model caddy wanna race me.. i don't do anything.. i'm starin into space.. the light turns green.. and they romp it... I mean.. why? Are our cars that big of a threat to people.. I thought at first they were older generation cars...

Guess not.. anyways.. thats so much.. Your really helping me here rev! I think were gunna be buddies! Lol.. anyways.. thats nice.. I like a howl.. just like if I had a TB spacer. Anyways.. thats nice to know where that stuff is.. I'll take it off tonight.. no dremel.. so i'll figure something out!

So thanks so much for helping me out here! I do appreciate yer time and effort to respond to my post!

I didn't have a dremel when I took mine out either, with a little persuasion the plastic broke :)

Good luck, hopefully once you get all the things done she'll run smooth.

Lol.. no smooth for me... I took of the silencer.. and finally gave up on the part under the air box... it crazy how hard it is for my fat butt to fit under these cars...lol.

New problem.. I went to get gas last night... 11 miles left on the tank.. i put 10 in.. and come out... wth? my gas gauge is still showing 11 miles.. and the computer is say 11 miles... so i talk to the lady.. which isn't so friendly... finally wind up going to another gas station and puttin in .50 cents... 50 CENTS... wow.. was that a look.. lol.. and finally.. my car took and showed 110 miles on the tank... Did taking off my silencer.. cause the computer to go funky.. and I needed to take the battery cable off for it to reset?

If so.. then i'll do that after lunch... take my cable off and let the car reset. Lastly.. I'm still cuttin out in the upper rpm range... I sea foamed tho but not a whole lot of smoke came out of my car.. I use the brake booster line.. right? I take it off the booster and start the car with the hose in the sea foam.. then turn it off.. wait 5 mins.. and start up the smoke show?

I'm not sure about that. I've used it in my mothers buick century crankcase and got a real good smoke show, and then in the tank with minimal gas and gotten a little. I've never done it through the vacuum system, if it helps someone might chime in and let us know then i'll have to do it.
