I can't believe i heard something funny when i started my car after leaving work. the air suspension stop working and i have error on my message center. error are the following (Gear display Data Error) (Engine Temp Data Error) i had it check by a local mechanic i was told the air suspension air pump is gone. power goes thru it but it wont start. he couldn't tel me why the message center dispaying error on gear and eng temp at the same time the air pump died, i could undertsnad why it burned out due because i have a slow leak and it seems to run more often to fill the bags. but the data erros i dont understand why that would happend just like that. i' am buiyng new air pump(motor) my only choice is taking the car to the lincoln dealer that will cost me.
though i have the workshop manual that is worthless without the code diagonostic computer, if that what they call it. . Anyone know?

Well if you are purchasing the the pump then just replace it yourself.. there are 4 bolts that hold it down.

All you have to do is unplug the power wires that will plug back in to the new pump. Then take off the 4 nuts.. You can get the front nuts through the headlight access area.

Easy job..

If you have a slow leak you will kill the new pump also. You need to replace the leaking bag.

My guess is corroded connectors... it happens, often. Maybe you can try cleaning them first and see what happens.

From the FSM:
ENGINE TEMP DATA ERR is displayed when the PCM detects a concern with the engine temperature sensor, and it activates the message center indicator module though the SCP network, or the message center indicator module does not receive the engine temperature data from the PCM.

GEAR DISPLAY DATA ERR is displayed when a gear display data error is detected by the hybrid electronic cluster (HEC) and activates the message center indicator through the SCP network.

Notes:
The dash board module (speedo, tach, etc) is called the hybrid electronic cluster (HEC).

Look to see if the temperature reading on the dash temp gauge is normal. If it is not, then look to the sensor, wiring, etc. If the gauge displays a normal reading, check the PCM and PCM to message center interface.

Check that the correct gear indicator on the console is correctly reflected with the gear indicator on the dash. If wrong, check the interface between the console and the dash. If they match, check the interface between the HEC and message center.

I bought a Snap-on MT2500 diagnostic device from a seller on ebay. With it, I can diagnose most engine, transmission, and ABS faults. It does not do as much as Ford's Star tester, but it was a lot cheaper. Considering that it's obsolete, you can find good prices for them. The Ford factory service manual is also nice to have. I have both the CD and paper versions. I like the paper one better, but it's a bit more money.

Best regards,
Frank

temperature reading on the dash temp gauge and the speed, fuel, and everything else dont work either. even if it is corrossion on the air compressor that i could clean and hopefully might work, but the other problems i discribed above might be the computer maybe got screwd?

i will purchased the air compressor on line for i think it was $186 rebuild, replace it , then worry about the rest after? ohh i have to remove the bumper to get to the air compressor?

ThanKs ALOT ALL!

will keep you inform

Are you sure its not a relay or fuse then? If all these other items are a no-go. Did ya check em all yet?

Check all of the fuses in the instrument panel fuse box and also the fuse box under the hood. Test them with a light or meter, not just visually. After that, you get into expensive territory and may need dealer assistance.

The speed sensor is connected to the powertrain control module, the speed control module, and the air suspension/EVO module. It doesn't connect to the HEC (instrument panel). The engine temperature reading is sent to the PCM. Fuel level is sent to the PCM and Message Center. All of the data displayed on the HEC is sent over either the multiplex network or the SCP network. So if it's not power (bad fuse), you have network issues, or a bad HEC module. Note that the PASSKEY anti theft system recognizes that the proper ignition key is in the ignition switch when the HEC performs a challenge/response to the encryption chip in the ignition key. Once the HEC recognizes that the correct key has been inserted, it will send a message over the network to the PCM indicating that it's OK to start the engine. You don't have some weird bypass to that system for a remote starter or a reprogramed PCM, do you? Because if the engine starts and the PASSKEY system is unmodified, then the HEC must be communicating to the PCM in some fashion and neither module is completely dead if the vehicle operates.

However, if any system in the car was modified or reprogrammed, then just multiply the number of problems that you can have or will see. Though the systems in these cars are simplier than the one in 2007 models, they are not trivial. A diagnostic tester that can read Ford's proprietary codes will be very useful.

My problems are getting worst

Today i was going to change air compressor, while removing tire i broke Anti-Theft Wheel Lock nut, well the lock itself broke on the inside so i can't get my wheel off. Tomorrow mybe my mechanic could burn it off or do somthing, i have chrome rims hope is not a problem. I checked all the fuse high current and others. they are fine. and no i havent made any modification on car, car is still original, i only change the radio and radio still work.
thank you all for the support. wil keep you inform. i got tired trying to chisel the nut off LOL i think is made out of steel lol

later

Replaced Air compressor and relay

Replaced Air compressor and relay and still it wont respond.
what could it be? i turn air switch to the on position and started engine and still wont work. Any clue anyone?

I saw there is a way to run a self test on the air ride system, Can anyone post the link to it?

I need to know

I bought a auto scanner plus state OBD II scan tool will this unit be good for my car?

Oops, you said that you already changed the relay. Sorry

I'd take a good look a the wires and their connections to the relay.

Anyone figure this out yet?

My car just started showing the same 2 messages and the air ride doesn't kick on. I was wondering if this problem got solved yet.

You can check a few things with a voltmeter. Pull the connector from the compressor relay. There should be +12VDC on the connector with the Black/yellow (Black wire with yellow tracer) wire. If not, fuse #13 under the hood is bad.

When the system is trying to run the compressor to raise the vehicle, there should be +12VDC on the pin with the DarkBlue/yellow wire. If no power, the EVO module could be bad, the sensors could be bad, or there is a network problem or other problem inhibiting the system from operating. More later.

There should be a good ground connection between the pin with the black wire and ground. Check with the resistance setting on your meter for only a few ohms resistance. Repair wiring if high resistance or open found.

Very briefly apply +12VDC to the pin with the Pink/orange wire. The compressor motor should run. If the black wire on the compressor has continuity to ground, then replace compressor. Otherwise fix wiring problem if it does not run.

If all check are OK, the relay is bad.

Now, if the system should be trying to run the compressor but you get no voltage on the DarkBlue/yellow wire, then you have to do a lot more troubleshooting. You need a factory service manual and a scan tool that will read the Ford Proprietary Diagnostic Test Codes. The Actron scanner I think you bought will not read the proprietary codes from the Air Suspension/EVO module, HEC, SCIL and a whole bunch of other modules, some of which you'll need to troubleshoot as your car as a series of problems. Find someone who has a Ford New Generation Star (NGS) Tester, or equiv.

Someone asked about the self-test. The self-test requires the NGS tester. The self-test mode is initiated by connecting the NGS tester to the connector on the spring tower and triggering the test from the NGS.

The diagnostic section of the manual for the air suspension is almost 100 pages long. Troubleshooting this system blindly isn't trivial. On the other hand, with the right tools, the system is not hard to maintain. You can find the NGS on ebay every now and then or buy from a Hickok distributor. Full-up, it's around $2,500.

Problem Solved!

:) I FOUND THE PROBLEM! : A High current fuse, 15A Mini fuse Location 4 .Air suspension Electronic Variable orifice power steering) a good fuse, of many i removed and checked and wasn't blown. well replacing it anyway made my car work, the message center errors have been corrected with the same fuse:D keep in mind i did replace compressor and after replacing compressor it still didn't work till the good looking fuse was replace.. so it could had been the compressor then the fuse must have gotton messed up without visible damage, weird. Thank you all,;) got my car back i feel i have a new car since i havent drove the car in almost 2 weeks.

Now i have to replace 1 air strut and i'am done! wash, wax, and shampoo the rugs, then back to playing C&C Renegade as a bonus

Ty all again!! :D

Before i Replace the good fuse that needed replacing, i cleaned the high current fuses, and the mini fuses on the side driver door, with 0000 steal wool, yes steal wool. on the high current fuses i cleaned the metal contacts one at a time so i wont forget where i removed them from, away from car/fuse box. You dont want metal particles falling inside fuse box. the steal wool you should purchase are 0000 steal wool, home depot or any hardware stores should carry it. Believe me most fuse where brown or discolor maybe not making proper contact, even after cleaning the fuses air compressor and error message on display has not change, till i decided to change the mention fuse after cleaning them all. VSfiedor good luck!

0000 Steal Wool work great on the outside car windows too lol. not to be use on chrome, back inside window or passenger backs seat windows of course.:)
