Sorry guys?gals, but had too!

I've seen the cobalt it's not a bad looking car, but it's not a lincoln :shifty: If I had to go rice which I just might for the hell of it when im done my work on the linc i'll either go the route of a Tiburon, or TC :D

Ok, just thought I'd do an update since I have gotten to drive it more. All I can say right now is that I like it, its nice to shift gears again and I like it being smaller, although more roomy on the inside. I like the interior even though some consider it cheap, but I was looking at the new vette and they seem to have the same amount of plastic and crap. G/F likes the car alot too.

The car has only 97 miles right now but I am already getting the estimated 23 miles to the gallon and that keeps going up which is alittle surprising because normally during "break in" of the engine you suffer not the best mileage and its also surprising because I have been doing stop and go traffic for the last day and a half since I got it cause I had to come out of charlotte and go back again to return some papers.

I love when people say I well rice it out when I plan on doing the same stuff I did to the LS, talk about hypocritical but oh well it does not bother me and cars like this do not bother me cause I have had nothing but cars like this since I started driving besides the LS. I figure hey, I'm young and its time to just drive a car that is good for the wallet and later on I can get a car like the LS once I'm settled and have a family. I got the LS cause it was a good deal at the time, had alot of money coming in, but unforeseen(sp) circumstances changed the cash flow and I was regretting trading in a perfect '03 cavalier w/ under 15K miles so I decided the best bet was to get into something similiar if not better, unfortionately w/ my situation I could not get the downpayment for cars that you have mentioned to get my payment where Parks Chevrolet did. I tried a few places like: Honda, Hyundai, Ford, even Toyota(scion to be specific) but they did not have the deals and I was told "good luck anywhere." I was just about to give up and say I'd stay w/ the LS and thought it would get better, just have to cut back on some things and than low and dehold Parks gave me a call and things went the way I wanted.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the car and well keep you posted about it and whatever I do to make it better when the time comes.

$399 a month?? How many years did you finance this for?

I'm also a bit lost on the choice. I mean, we were discussing a Tibby GT ... so I would think you'd at least want the Cobalt SS or Ion Redline. If I was looking at the LS, I agree with the poster who said to go with a Scion Tc instead. Also $16k and change. comes standard with the sunroof and all. And won't have the resale of week-old fish like the cobalt. Oh well.

I TRIED THE TIB and more "better" cars, just did not work. I'm not going to pay $550 a month for a Tiburon, even if it was a 12 sec. one lol.

Anyway, get this, I may have the LS back. The dealer called and are having problems getting the loan so I called back and said I'm not doing a co-signer and that I well be back to return the car and get my LS back w/ nothing changed. Told 'em I'm not paying for mileage and I want all of my money back!

I'm waiting to hear back from them now as I type. It sucks cause I was really starting to get into this type of car again but getting the LS back well be alright too I suppose lol. Either way I well be somewhat happy. Just really like this car which is hard to believe I know but hey, people laughed and crap at some of the most sought after classics we have today when they first hit.

youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu suck!!!!..J/K i feel you on the car payment thing well better luck next time maybe u will find a used 1 in mint condition and get that as a second car and sell them back the HEAVY CHEVY...

When you post on here you can expect criticism and you even asked for it this time, but screw what others think. I totally understand your reasons for choosing the car you did. Most of the kids on here are still the age where their car has to be something cool and is a big part of their identity in this world. If the other guy has a car that does 12.9 they need one that does 12.8.....if you have 20's they need 22's.... its all a bunch of stuck up B.S. Once they get older they'll understand a car is just a machine to get from point A to point B. I have stayed away from all GM lately because the materials used for the interior just looks way too cheap. I agree that even the top of the line Corvette has the same cheap plastic. Dealerships always do shady stuff and it seems no surprise that they're pulling some crap. I'd end the deal just because they're acting stupid, but i'd be weary of what the LS has been doing since the trade. When i decided to buy an LS a dealer had an awesome black v8, i was just about ready to buy it until i overheard another salesman talking about he's been driving it home and how his wife was driving it and all which in my book was a deal breaker. Good luck with the car.

How much older do I have to be before I lose my passion for automobiles and have the same attitude towards them as my washer and dryer? Just curious, because I'm 32 now and want to make sure I get in all my seat time in exciting cars before I hit this dreadful age you speak of.

Why do you care? Its an appliance to you, right? Do you care what your stove knobs "feel" like?

That summary is confusing. Did all Cobalt models get 2 stars or just the SS?

The LS is back, went back and gave 'em hell. They pulled up the LS I checked it over, started it up and let it warm up and we left. Pretty happy either way, well miss the Cobalt, was what I wanted for now but hey. Now I can order them eyebrows like I planned once I get back the full down payment I gave 'em which should be in a couple of days.

I understand the criticism, expected worse but that is how it goes. Some people just cannot understand why people do something, I did what I thought was the best thing for me right now and that was to save some money, get settled and than I could go back to owning a car like an LS.

Your response is dumb and usually people take a defensive attitude when they think its them being described. I never questioned the "passion" for an automobile. I still have a "passion" to own a '87 Grand National...and that will never go away till i own one. But that passion isnt based on the fact that i wanna beat that darn mustang down the block, or my neighbor has a 13 sec. car and i wanna 12 sec. car....its based on my own individual personal feelings. I was commenting on how the kiddies do most of their mods or whatever for the approval and impression of their peers, and thus wouldnt EVER buy a Chevy Cobolt because of course it just wouldnt be "cool" to drive. Now, there isnt an exact age that this goes away. I am sure that there are plenty of grown men who still act childish in that aspect. I was simply implying that with maturity you kinda lose that peer pressure to have the biggest rims. Maybe its just me. And another thing, if my stove cost me $30,000 then your damn right i'd be checking out what kind of knobs it has. But it doesnt....dumb example dude!!

im 20 years old, so i guess i fall under the category you call "kiddies" and i wouldnt buy a cobalt because personally i dont like the cobalt, i got big rims on my car because i like them, i cud give 2 sh!ts who likes them or who doesnt... im not trying to be mean or nothing towards you, just simply letting you know that some of us young people dont do the stuff we do to our cars for the likes of our peers, but rather for our own likes...

All this cause I got/had a Cobalt? LOL.

Hate this weather we are having right now, hopefully it clears up nice tomorrow so I can wash the LS, it was very dirty when I got it back. I think its alittle mad at me too, did not start right up like it normally does, its fine now though.

I think the people who took the trade in the hardest were my parents, mom cried and my dad was down but now that I have it back they are happy and now they say that in a few months if I really want to get another car, if I do it'll be a new Civic Si(not cause its whats hot, because its the best Civic out) they said they want to buy the LS so I guess that option is open and the car well remain in the family. Or I'll look for a '95 or so MR2(want one sooooo bad).

I think a car signifies a large part of a person's identity.....no matter what the age. By stating you won't buy a GM product is eluding to that fact that you want a quality product. That young man who was interested in buying a Cobalt or whatever is interested in getting something that is sporty and less expensive than his LS. A person who owns a minivan has a family that a sedan or coupe won't fit. We don't support communism here, for if we did, it would be the degradation of individuality. As for the rest of your statement after that, I find it in poor taste and lacking merit. You have no facts to support your claim that these "kids" on this website choose to modify their cars so they can be the "coolest" kids on the block. Not to speak on behalf of them, but I would venture to guess they choose to modify their car for personal satisfaction and individuality. If they choose to modify it to show off, than that again is what makes America the land of the free.

ummmm... think about things before you post them. YOU called a car a $30k appliance, not me. And you caught onto EXACTLY my point (proving the example worked): calling a car an appliance is an absurd statement (to clarify: your exact words were "just a machine to get from point A to point B," in other words, "an appliance"). For SOME people, its absolutley true, but those people drive things like Hyundai Accents (oh, and i can easily buy a stove for more than an Accent). LS owners are NOT driving appliances. So, yes, I think you offended everyone here by calling our cars a dirty word. :p

Hey I don't know if you will give a rats ass about what I have to tell ya. But my opinion is that you should do a Private Party on the LS, to minimize your UPSIDE DOWN LOAN!! Getting the Cobalt would have only increased the amount of money your owe a few years down the line, since resale on those cars will be non-existent. So IMO you got lucky that deal didn’t go through. You're seriously getting a snowball effect on your finances, if you don't stop now you will go dead broke. No offense to you, but from what you posted on here you have no money to afford either one of these cars. That might offend you but think about it, you owe more than the car is worth now, and you can't even afford another car that is cheaper!!! Get yourself something for 2000-5000, and make sure it is reliable, cheap to maintain and gets good gas mileage (Corolla etc), once you get a better job and more cashflow then you can possibly get something else. I know it is cool to have a nice car, but you have to think about things logically.

I never said my car was an appliance, i said if my stove cost as much as my car then i would be more interested in its construction. But you are right, i used the word "machine". Now even though that is very different than "appliance"...a toaster is an appliance, not a car....the word machine wasnt right for what i was trying to point out. I should have say something like its a "method" or "device" or "way" to get from point A to point B. Make sense ? In its most basic purpose a Ford Festiva will provide the same function as a BMW 760Li. Its the reason that people pick anything from a Festiva to the 760Li that i was getting at. And when your young that reason is mostly drivin by what your peers think. For all of us "old" people we where that young person at one point in time. But some people here get waaaaay too serious about their car, and carry that into an older age. I did do a poll here that got erased back when the server got wiped but there are alot of young, single, student, maybe still living with mom & dad kinda people on here. Its a no brainer that a huge majority of people who own a car and would log onto a webboard about their car are young...under 21. Read the post right above this. That is an older mature way to look at buying a car. Most on here dont see things that clearly.

Congratulations getting your LS back! My parents were upset about me buying a Lincoln and then the first time I had to take it in to the shop I came out $2,000 lighter in the pocket. Since I've owned the car my parents have been telling me to get rid of it and get a smaller car. The last time the LS had problems - I almost got an '05 Sentra - I'm so glad I backed out of that.
I'm 27 with a professional white collar job and I haven't gotten any financial support from my parents in years, but I do listen to their advice - I'm keeping the Lincoln!!! Its a sweet car. I've test-driven the Cobalt SS and it was kind of fun, but too small. Plus you were paying more for the Cobalt than the LS, the LS will be paid off sooner than the Cobalt.

Just do the routine maintenance on it and it will last. Next time you're on the road note how many old Lincolns you see. There are a ton - and they were built in the 80's. Ours were built in '00s - they will last a long time.

I do like the idea of having a play-toy manual beamer - lets see if the old lady will buy it... probably not. :)

that's actually funny. Because that post is basically the same thing I told him in his original topic about the subject (before he traded the LS). He ignored me, too. :)

I really do understand what you're saying ... but its definitely not an age thing, and definitely not a maturity thing. Its just where your passions lie, that's all. That was the only point I wanted to get across. I will ALWAYS be passionate about cars, as far as I can tell (it started through my father's influence when I was a kid and its stronger than ever now at 32 years of age). I can't say why. That would be like trying to explain why I love my wife. I just do. There is nothing wrong with having a passion for cars and considering them as more than transportation. They can be a hobby, a distraction, and an amusement, as well. Not to mention, if you think about how much time some people spend in their cars (me included), it is no small wonder that they have to at least try to enjoy that time.

welcom back! if you want to lighten your payments, why don't you try to refinance your loan? This is possible just like doing the same with a mortgage, and will leave you with a few extra bucks in your wallet each month .However, your term may be extended a little. The ball is in your court!

And that is all that matters. Give him a break guys...he did what he thought was best for HIM. Since I don't walk in his shoes...I can't pass judgement.

But DAMN! It's a Chebbie!!! (sorry...I just couldn't pass that up...)
