When im cold i get a sound like the car is spooling up a supercharger, and when im hot it only happens when im flooring it. Also, when i turned off the car after the evening commute, i popped the hood real quick, and i was listening as it started to cool down, and i heard a hissing, kinda more like someone was blowing air, comming from the passengers side of the motor...couldnt tell if it was the head, block, front, back...so...pass side motor. anyone have any idea whats this all about?

Usually when a car sounds like it's blown it's an alternator with bad bearings. Friend of mine's 90 Formula sounded like that until he swapped the alt out.

Try running the car without the belt and see if the noise stays or goes away.

i just had the alternator checked, so its prolly not gonna be that, though i wont rule it out just yet.

Im guessing maybe something with the timing chains?

I remember a friend of my dad saying that its called "belt walk". Its due to the motor revving high and the tensioner being not tensiony enough...:)

I've also been told that it can be the result of internal wear inside the transmission. But that probably doesn't apply to you.

I was thinking this, kinda thinkin the tensioner might be losing its tensiony ability.

i hope thats sarcasim:p
Na, i know what a good tranny failure sounds like, this isnt one of them.

id check all of the pullys and pumps etc use a long screw driver and put one end to the bolt, housing, etc and the other end to your ear

The Ford Explorer 4.0 makes a sound like this, though its more constant. Their problem is in the IAC valve. The hissing after shutoff is normal.

That's why I said run the car without the belt on it, to eliminate anything of the accessories as the problem.

well the problem with that is its only under load, and i dont nessissarly think im gonna get the car warmed up, take off the belt and floor it down the road. Good idea, but, i seriously doubt ill be trying that.

Its most likely your headlights, ive heard of a few cases in which the headlights make a whistling noise in conjuction with acceleration..... Sorta like a supercharger, except without the torque.

I had a Javelin that I used too long of a fan spacer, and got the fan too close to the radiator, it sounded like a blower,... that was a rigid mount fan, but sounds like something similar...

ahhha, i gotcha...i should prolly check my muffler bearings with my left handed metric cresent wrench while im at it too?

Similar sound on my 98 LSC - replaced the belt and tensioner and it went away, not sure which it was but both looked pretty bad.

Some Ford AC Compressors have the very same symptoms that you are describing, especially the sound of leaking or blowing air that you describe. It could be that you have a low oil charge in your compressor. My T-Bird did the same thing, and they did a recharge/oilcharge in the compressor and it was fine.

very true, now that i think about it, it only does it when the ac is on...+1 for buford, you hit the nail on the head again.
