Speaker Education Wanted

Anyway, Telco, have you seen and tried this? I hear it's only temporary, but I can;t tell you how long it helps

Amazing. That actually knocks the edge off. It's been pretty loud lately and that technique didn't stop it but made it quieter. Thanks! I've never heard of it before but it seems to work. Really though, I've learned to ignore it for the most part but it does raise the noise floor high enough that I have a problem hearing people when they talk to me.

If anyone wants to know what it's like, it's a 2700hz tone that I hear 24x7. For anyone who doesn't have access to a tone generator (when I worked for Verizon part of my job was testing ringdown circuits (think Batphone) and I worked with a tone generator on a daily basis), it's sounds kinda like when you hold the 9 button down on your phone. The tone is a bit higher, but the 9 button is close.

Loud, any recommendations for a drop-in replacement for the subs on the rear shelf? '02 with the Alpine system. Thanks!
I already replaced the surrounds once, but they're failing again.

there are only a couple of company's that make them, CDT makes a few different levels of them, most of which would really need a more powerful amp.

A few more things to consider.

1. A 3db increase in speaker sensitivity(efficiency) is the equivalent of doubling amplifier power.

2. Consider NOT omitting the rear door speakers. While their position is not ideal for listening from the front seats, the woofers still move air and will contribute substantially to the sound in the mid-bass range. I actually get better bass fading it 1 tick to the rear with my factory 4 speaker stock system.

3. A good EQ can be your friend. I use a re-purposed Droid 3 with Blaston Player Pro with DSP pack playing through a cassette adapter. Combined with the Droid 3 audio enhancements and tuning the Player Pro 10-band EQ, I can get enough bass that my GF swears rattles the front windows of the house. I think she's full of it but I know I can make all of the mirrors vibrate such that I have to turn it down to see.

Remember the rear deck speakers only get a "low" signal from the amp.

technically, the rear subs amp does not have any crossovers inside of it, it does indeed send out full range (or at least near full range sound), the OEM radio has the crossovers inside of it, and only sends low freqs to the amp. if you have a aftermarket radio, you need to turn this feature on (HPF) otherwise it sounds terrible!

but yes, as configured, you only want to replace them with bass drivers.

I'm glad I was able to share that with you. It's just one of those things I read months (years?) ago and happened to have retained.

Here's a 2000 and 3000Hz tone. Presumably, it's the same tone the rest of us hear temporarily after being in a loud concert/bar/club/whatever for a while. I don't know how I'd deal with that all the time, though

Also, Audacity is a neat, free audio editing program that has a wide range of effects and tools, including a sine/saw/square wave tone generator, for anyone interested

LoudFrank, any recommendations for a drop-in replacement for the subs on the rear shelf?

Cut the hole bigger and drop-in some 8s! :)

Yep, my tinnitus is around between 2000 and 4000 on that, 24x7. Thanks for the link, the wife now has a better idea of what I hear all the time now.

My Right Front Door Speaker is a little crackly and I want to replace it. What speakers are compatible? I have the standard Audio with a CD6 that is not branded.

Thanks.

I ended up ordering a replacement from FordParts.com for less than $26. Sounds great. I'm replacing the Rear Speakers with some off the rack 25w 4ohm 6x9's that get installed just as soon as these arrive.
