This is prolly a lot more simple than I'm making it out to be. How do I get to the speakers in the rear deck? And the JBL amp is back there right? I'm used to the deck speakers being installed from the trunk.

The speakers are behind a mesh type of grill the same color as your int. They will be on opposite sides by the rear seat arm rests. Simply take a flathead or knife and carfully pry around the oval. If you have premiem sound there will be a 5x7 speaker rated at 4 ohms and a seperate tweeter. Same goes for the front exept that you have to remove the door panel to change the speakers.
There are no speakers in the rear deck, And yes the amp is under the rear shelf and can be seen by opening the trunk and removing the black panel.

Make sure that when you are removing the speaker grill in the back you start from the bottom, and pull the bottom out, then pull down. The top of the speaker grills have long tabs pointing up that everyone usually breaks. Also, the factory amp is in the trunk, and is held in place by metal snaps, and on the lefts side as you are laying on your back, there is a bolt, 6 or 7 mm in size holding it up.

ah, thanks. Knowing where it is I doubt is going to help me now that I think about it. I need preamp outputs to hook up my amp, I was hoping there were some off the amp in the trunk, or possible off the factory deck.

I'm thinking i might have to solder some RCA plugs from the speaker wire. Not the best option, but for just bass, it wasnt that bad in the past. There should be a power on wire to the factory amp i can splice over too. Rather than trying to find one from the fuse box that turns off with the ignition.

Dude, why in the hell would you want to do something like that? Just put a system in your Mark. Don't get me wrong, the factory setup is ok when everything is working. With everthing available today, change everything over. It is not hard at all. I did my system myself. I have an all Infinity system. Two Infinity Amps, one 12" Subwoofer, and a Pioneer Avic D1 with XM satellite radio and Ipod connection. My system sounds bad ass to me, and I am totally happy with it. It is not very clean with the wires hanging, but I am not concerned with that right now. I will fix that sooner or later.
You should do the same with your Mark.

I have an infinity kappa 12 with a 750w amp that I'm anxious to hook back up. The deck I have outta my old car isnt what I want in this one. You talked me into just waiting on the subs and just doing the whole thing in the spring when I have more money to play with. Not that I'd use it with my zune, but does the changer still work? And Crutchfield is terribly unhelpful with all the speaker sizes, could you confirm those too?

first off g-man ive always heard that mounting your amps upside down is bad for the cooling, dunno for sue just what ive heard
and tacklebox, no the changer wont work ive never heard of anyone getting it to work with a aftermarket headunit, the speaker sizes are 5x7/6x8 standard ford sizes. if you wanna go round speakers look here for adapter plates at good prices, i used them on mine and on the "thundermark" project

I have ad my amps like this for quite some time with no ill affect. At the same time, I don't jam my system so everyone including my neighbors can hear me.
I keep my sound moderate and comfortable for me.mark8lady

FWIW, we just pulled all of the factory wiring...speaker wires...everything.
I pulled the back seat, back deck cover, door panels and ran the wires for the speakers, the amps, etc to the trunk.
We have one amp mounted up where the factory amp used to be...but we put a computer case fan up there to pull air across it. The other amp (just for the subs) in attached to the sub box. The sub box has 2- 10" subs in it and it fits perfectly under the deck in the trunk...looks like it was made to go there actually.
So far I've had zero problems with the amps cutting out, etc--and I DO play it so the neighbors can hear ;-)

It is advised that you mount your amps either horizontal, facing up or vertical. The heat sinks don't work as effectively when they are mounted horizontal, face down.
BUT... it depends how hard you push your amp as to weather or not you really need to worry about the heat sinks not dissipating all the heat that gets generated.

i used the factory amp tray (gen 2 only has 1 amp under there, no compass module etc) and was able to fit 2 mtx amps on it (right side up) and then my crossover is mounted just below the air ride switch on the left side of the trunk.
and i guess if your not pushing the amps too hard (like said above) than i guess your ok, just ive always heard thats a no-no

I saw a pic of someone's trunk where they had the lincoln logo molded into the sub box carpet. I cant find the thread now. Anyone remember where that was?

this how i have my trunk set up. i have 3 12" re audio subs the box is made to max spec. the amp is an autotec mx3000.1 and that's in the spare tire well. im new here so i don't have many pic yet i'll post some soon. if you guys have any ?? let me know. i do this for a living. radios amps alarms tvs. pm me with any ??

I used a adjustable output adapter
It was very easy and adds bass that is very clean
and I used a hot in the trunk that is with the delayed accessory realy
so the sub works along with the radio after you shut the car off.

As for mounting the amps, all manufactures recommend that you not mount your amps like that. The heatsinks are designed to radiate the heat away from the mosfets. As everyone knows, heat rises, the heatsinks are usually on the top and sides to pull the heat away from the internals. When the heatsinks face down, the heat just stays with the amp. Although, you may not have a problem with the amps shutting off due to overheating, it may shorten the life of your amps.
Most amps are designed with thermal circuity that will shut the amp off before it causes serious harm to the internals, but why risk it. You spend good money on equipment, why do it more than you have to.
