what in particular would you damage if you were to bottom out on a speed bump. I hit this one bump about 4 times when i first got the car and wasn't as careful/would forget. after the front tires go over, it sort of bounced on top of the bump as the shocks compressed. awful. When looking under, it was hard for me to tell what would be hitting. anyone know? i suppose it would depend, but any input would be appreciated.

I couldn't tell you exactly what you could damage but im telling you down in Austin Texas the roads are the worst, I hit a DIP in the road so bad just cruising along that i thought my car broke in half, did this twice actually, and bottomed out the shocks really bad, and once on a big speed bump, and if nothing seemed to happen on my car then, then I think you should be fine

I would say the trans cover or the pipes coming from the exhaust manifold.

You'd mostly likely hit the bump stops on the shocks first, then the two bars that connect from the body to the K member second. I know those bars on my car are all scratched up from me hitting stuff.

I remember one member posting that he broke the front main seal by hitting a speed bump. That would really suk.

+1
gotta love those safety bars! :D i have noticed that some cars dont have them though. that aside, if you bottomed your shocks, they would stick through the hood. you surely hit the bump stops. i think every vital part is mostly safe even if you dont have those bars (when you bounce down onto the bump. all bets are off if you just scream over it).

Where my office is they have dual speed bumps about six inches apart, you have to essentially go over them at about 1-2 mph or else the second bump KILLS your car. Dumbest sh!t i have ever seen.

I hate speed bumps for sure! Local transportation departments have begun using "speed humps" here lately (aka speed table). They are much more vehicle friendly.

Take a look.

Yeah there are a lot of bumps that are bad enough at stock ride height. I don't know how you guys with lowered cars get survive

i have humps in my neighborhood, much better than bumps, but i still scrape on some of the tall humps, other than that i prefer humps to bumps by far. hahaha

I took out my main seal with a speed bump at the bowling alley. about 15 bucks for the part & 400 in labor. :( Live & Learn I guess. :) I think once you dish out the 400 bucks, you'll be more careful.

:q:q:q:q once i heard my first BANG over a speed bump i go like 1 mph over them things...speed Humps are deffinately 20x better...feels kinda cool goin over them haha
