Alright I am needin some help here to finish my install of the double din navigational head unit in the LS. Can anyone help out with the speed sensor wire, i need to tap into this wire for the GPS. and also is there a closer location than the reverse lamps in the trunk to find the reverse wire i need to hook that up also.. but mainly i need to know which wire is the speed sensor or the speed pulse wire is also known by.. Thanks in advance ..
Oh i will be posting some pics here later today... yippeee got it done finally

Sorry cant help :(

its a 2000 ls v8 sport... information would awesome if you can find it..

Im going to chime in for ya, maybe save some time :)

According to his 'photo garage' its a 2000

2000 LS Lincoln wiring book shows that each wheel has its own input to the abs module then it is multiplexed to the pcm for speed input. the trans uses a input shaft speed sensor tubine shaft speed sensor and an output shaft speed sensor ,but not even the output shaft speed sensor can be used. try tapig into the rear abs wires on one side.

isn't there a wire into the computer i can splice into under the console i think thats where the computer is.???

i am thinking i can tap into the input wire that goes to the pcm if i am understanding you correctly.. but i don't know what the color of the wire is

If i can't do it there i wonder where the factory gps units connect the speed pulse wire. Suppose not too many people have had to have work done to their gps units so you probably have had to work on one yet.. But they probably have an easy way of getting that hooked up..

you are going to have to tap into a speed sensor before it goes into the abs module . i wish someone that has done this already so it would simplify the procedure.

Well thanks for the help l-m tech.. We will see if that will work and the speed shows up correctly when we go to calibrate the gps unit.. Thanks again..

after you figure it out let us know so it'll help someone out. good luck

I searched high and low - no luck.

- the wiring to the instrument cluster is not detailed
- the speed / volume control to the audio unit is not listed anywhere
- anything to do with speed inout to the PCM is not listed

there are a couple of listing on input shaft speeds on the tranny....

hey quik what about the plug we use to hook up the diagnostics tests. Iread in an old post related to this topic listed down below that someone posted a similar question but no answer for yet, do you think that a speed sensor is also hooked up there and does a wire diagram show anything for that hookup..

My ODBII tool does read the vehicle speed correctly - but that's reading it from the PCM - after the PCM has taking in all the inputs and converted it to something meaningful.

i think thats good.. i think thats what i'm needing is the information after the pcm has translated information.. now which wire is it.. lol.. that might help now i need to look for where we check this... is it under the steering column i'm guessing..

the ODBII port is located in front of gas pedal just behind the lower dash trim panel.

you'll need a ODBII interface and software to decode it.

any way i might be able to find out which pin is the speed sensor on the diagnostic port ...?? i think this will work this is the output from the pcm so it should be sending information of the speedometer through here..

nope - it doesn't work like that. the ODBII port goes to the data bus and is a multiplex signal - so you not only have to have a the hardware to interface to it, but the software that can decode it. If you car is a 03+, then you also have to deal with the CAN protocol.

the cluster is much the same - there isn't a wire for the speedo, but a cable full of wires connecting the cluster to the data bus.

UUGGGHHH!!! Ok .. that won't work.. I haven't had time to work on the car yet to try different things but hoping this weekend we can try something, but want to get an idea of something i can use.. i know my speedomoter is working correctly so i know for a fact that its getting information somehow unless the engineers at lincoln designed a supercomputer to fit inside the cluster to calculate all the variables and constants every second the car is running, but i don't know ,, with this car anything is possible..lol.. i don't know think all i need is SOMETHING thats tells the gps that the car is moving foward.. lol. I know i have to hook up the reverse wire which i thought i could tap into the reverse lamp in the trunk but now i am sure i will have to re-engineer the hood release and suspension and remove the right rear wheel to get that to work to.. lol.. sorry just venting seems like all the roads i go down are dead ends so far but i will keep on truckin i guess hopefully find something i can use.. thanks again quik for the help

Don't give up jdsimons you'll eventually get it I'll call my friend up that owns a car audio place and ask him if he has some information on how to get to the speed sensor!! I should have some good news in the afternoon I hope!! I'll try my best to find out how to get this resolved!! :L
