Speeding teen in LS clocked at 150 mph w 5 people in car.

I got kinda close to the tornado that almost wiped Quinter, KS off the map on my way to Colorado on Friday. All the troopers were busy with that mess so as soon as the twister got a few miles north of I-70 it was about 110 all the way into Thomas county. Thought for sure I'd be making an insurance claim that day.

Top Speed

As is mentioned elsewhere in this thread, an '02 Sport has no speed/RPM limiter. I use Michelin Pilot P-2s in 245-45-ZR18 size on my car. When racing at Maxton, in deference to my engine with bone-stock internals and 113K+ miles on the clock, I don't turn on the spray/methanol until well into 3rd gear. My one-mile National Record in E/FCC-S stands at 140.106 at present. It takes 37 seconds to run the mile from a dead stop, but the spray is only on for about a third of that time. When the new engine is complete, I'll extend the use of the spray. The engine is nowhere near wound-out. I don't intend to change the gear ratio until I'm able to pull 7500-8000 in 5th.

In regard to airflow, the exterior of the car is stock, with the exception of the added FoMoCo 'spook' on the trunk lid. The car is completely steady at 140, and the brakes---factory rotors with Raybestos cerametallic pads--- have no trouble stopping me by the first turn-off, about a third of a mile past the finish line.

what you guys are missing on here is that power adders wont change the top speed.... just how fast and the ease of which you get there. You have to change the gearing to adjust speed..... wheel size counts for this equation
Only if there is no electronic speed limiter and the car can already reach the max RPM in top gear. If it cannot reach top RPM, then more power will allow a higher RPM and therefore a higher top speed with any given final drive ratio. If the car cannot pull top gear due to lack of power, then a higher gear ratio (lower numerically) will not result in a higher top speed. Power tunes on the LS usually remove the top speed limiter as well as add more power.

+1

There is a differance between drag limited and RPM limited top speeds.
