Hey Guys,

I'm new to this forum. I've been surfing for like 2 months and this is my first post. I'm going to buy a LS in the next few months and I had a question: I know the Sport Model has the upgraded Alpine sound system. How does it sound compared to the base model's system? Is it comparable to the STS? A buddy of mine has a 2000 STS and it sounds AWESOME!

Just wondering... :)

only the sports have the upgraded system? i got a non sport and i was pretty sure i have the upgraded system...

Honestly, if you are that worried about it just get whatever car you want and put an aftermarket system in there. It's all personal taste too. Some love the base system, and for me after listening to some high end speakers and owning some CDT Audio's I'm not even pleased with my THX system.

the packages - IIRC - went base, Sport, Audiophile.

the best system is the Audiophile system - Alphine in-dash 6CD, 12 speaker, rear amp driving sub-woofers, console speaker on a sperate amp for DSP.

it was only available on Premiums - not an allowed package on Sports.

in later years it became the THX 'certified' system.

I have a sport and I thought it had the Audiophile? I have speakers everywhere including the sides of the console, 6 disc Alpine head unit and subs built into the rear deck. Could it have been a special order? It is a 2002 LS8 Sport.

if it says 'Alpine' on the CD door - and has the DSP button - then that is it.

May be they lifted the restriction in 2002? My 01 ordering guide states that it cannot be combined with the sport option....

I have an 01 V8 Sport. It also has "Alpine" on the CD door and the DSP button. I like it, although to my ears it sounds best "at volume". If one of the kids is sleeping in the back seat and my wife has to run into the store I'll just hang out and listen to some tunes till she gets back. In these low volume (on to one and one half bars on volume control) conditions it sounds kind of muddy to me. I thought I had a loose or torn speaker in one of the doors, but I took it out and it looked fine to me. At normal volume and higher, it sounds great. My oldest daughter likes the DSP "Stadium" setting, but my wife hates it. My conclusion is that sounds system is just like the rest of the car, it works best when the volume is up and the "go pedal" is pushed into the carpet.

Black03's Right if your really concerned about the sound then you'll want to put an after marked HU in there are several very good options (do a search here for Eclipse of Pioneer) but the truth of the matter is the audiophile system in my 02 LS Sport sounds better then any other factory sound system i've heard that includes the $5000 Nakamichi system upgrade my dad had in his 94 Lexus GS (and that sounded realy :q good) I'm amazed how much bass the is considering its just 2 6x9's. And even though I'm planning on putting together an system in a few month if I had to I could live happily with the audiophile system.

Just so you know where I'm coming from my last car had 1600 watts pushing 2 Infinity Kappa perfects 12DVQ's and 4 Kappa perfect 6.1 components with an Alpine 9815 HU (that's enough make your ears bleed :) )

Well, I like the stock look, that's why I wanted to know how well the stock system sounded. I don't want to start ripping the dash apart and install a After Market HU... IMO, those look cheesy, but that's my opinion. :D

While normaily I would have to agree but I got to say cheesy is not something that comes to mind when I look at these
