Squeaky Steering

time for suspension work. dry ball joints, dry tie rods, dry rotted bushings, all will cause that. if anyone has ever replaced ball joints in it, chance are you have grease fittings now, try some grease where ever you see a zerk, but most likely, you'll be rebuilding the front end in it!
 
It sounds like a few different issues and one possibly being the rack and end link bushings. Something is dry.

Jack the front up so that the tires aren't touching and grab each one at the 3 and 9 oclock position and see how much play you have. Without the car running. That was loud.
 
I inspected the suspension. The LCA's are great. They are new. I thought the inner tie rods were dry, but there are no grease fittings. I'm wondering if the rack is the problem?
 
You mean the "outer" tie rods. One other possibility, is that you have air in the power steering system. Is your reserviour below the min line.
 
my 93 Green Machine sounded exactly the same. really dry joints.....
Moog inner tire rod ends and moog lower ball joints solved the problem for me. sounds like a little belt squeal at the pump too. get a gatorback from summit.
 
My 94 did that because of loose rack and pinion bolts. It allowed the rack to move slightly when changing directions. I just crawled up with a 24 mm wrench and socket and cranked em down.
 
Well, I believe I've fixed the problem. I went to O'Reilly and bought a lube needle. I injected grease into the inner tie rod through the boot. So far it's quiet.
 
I..... but..... thats not...... wut...... fugg it.
 
all you had to do is pull the inner tie rod boot off the rack with your hand!! they only have thin band clamps on them they slide right off the rack.
