So I just had my pcv elbow and upper radiator hose replaced by a local shop. When my wife got home with the car it was squelling from the front of the engine, likely the belt/pulley area. It was not doing this at all before I took it in. Is it possible that coolant has gotten on the belt causing it to squeal, or maybe the coolant system is not properly primed? The squeal is there quietly at idle but increase quite a bit with RPM. It is very noticable but of course when I called the shop at 7:30 this morning their technicians had not noted anything on the records. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

The belt is supposed to be replaced if it is exposed to coolant. However, It seems unlikely that this is the source of your constant squeal.

I dont know if I would call its a constant squeal. It is as if it squeals when a specific section of belt hits the drive pulley. Thats why I thought coolant. Any other ideas of what it could be given the recent work done? Obvioulsy I know thats a loaded question considering you are going on my description. Thanks.

You are nearing the 150K belt replacement interval anyway. I'd replace the belt and spin check all the idlers while the belt is off. Other possibilities are the water pump, the fan pump, the steering pump, the alternator, and the AC compressor.

Either you just need the belt replaced (because it's old) or the coolant is causing it to squeal. If it is, then it will stop, once the coolant wears off the belt.
