STARTING PROBLEM - what to do?

Over the past couple of days this problem has been happening more often. After I took it to the dealer(2 weeks ago) and picked it up, I bought a multi-meter and tested the battery every day and the voltage tested good. The car wasn't having any trouble starting until a couple of days ago when I was having to jump it to get it started. Then when it started it was throwing a message of "check charging system," but ran fine when the engine was running. Then on Sunday I tried starting it and got a wierd sound coming from the starter, like it was being fried instead of the usual click. Put on a new starter and now starts and runs good with out the "check charging message." Voltage is where it should be when running along with the battery when the car is off. The starter was my original thought when this first started occuring in November, but dealer said it was the battery. After five months the starter must have gotten to the point where it couldn't produce. This should fix it. 2000 V8

my 2000 had a starting problem turned out to be the cell phone. just pulled the fuse and has been starting fine.

4th Try might be a charm.....

well I brought my car in for the 4th time for the same problem. 2 days now and no problems. They have changed just about every part in the starting system except for the alternator, so i hope that is fixed now. they even called the ford engineer for help on this one.

problem: car will not start sometimes(even with jump)

1st visit to dealership: replaced battery

problem comes back 3 months later

2nd visit to dealership: replace ignition switch

problem comes back a couple weeks later

3rd visit to dealership: replaced battery

problem comes back 3 months later

4th visit to dealership: see below attachment

Damm I hope the car is fixed this time!

HAWK03 did you ever get your car fixed?

HAWK03 did you ever get your car fixed?[/QUOTE]

Yes I did. It ended up being a loose wire at the junction box behind the front inside passenger wheel cover(the black cover). They tighten the loose wire and I haven't had a problem yet and it's been since May I believe. They followed every wire from the trunk up to the front(I could tell, nothing was put back right) and they found the wire finger loose. Every once in a while when I tried to crank the car I could hear a short down by the tire which lead me to believe it was the starter but that was not the case.
Hope this helps and report what they find.

HAWK03 glad to hear that your car got fixed also!

I am so happy to have my car back to normal. With out the warranty I would have been f*cked.

I didn't have a warranty but since they missed diagnosed my problem as the starter they fixed it for free. It's nice getting in the car and not wondering if it will start or not.
LikeNew02 it has sucked I know but I'm also glad that your starting problems are over.
