OK I gave in an took the LS to Longwood Lincoln today to have the Alternator replaced.....I bought it from central auto parts fro 189.99 and a 75.00 core and a 32.00 belt took it to lincoln and they charged my 91.89 to put it on and a 1.30 to replace to belt???(WTF) and the car is gold again.....As for the PA.....alternator they can not make one for the ls so thats out.....Im going to look around town and find someone to rebuild it....

On a better note I got my windshield tinted today and BOY O BOY I love it.....sould have done it year ago....I will post some pics tomorrow when the sun is out....I went 35% LOOKS super dark on outside but I cant even tell its on there.....LOVE IT and I got my X-mas gift from the girlie she got me carbon fiber pillar covers I will post some pics tomorrow also....

I assume this tinting was the film that the install correct? I've been wanting to do this for some time, but I just can't get myself to. I'm really worried about being able to see. I'm sure during the day it would be fine. At night though I can't even see out my side windows. It's even worse when it's raining or snowing. If you could take some pictures of it from the inside that would be awesome. Also with the film tints, isn't there a haze to it for the first few days?

Sorry for all the questions, but like I said I'm so worried about doing this, even though I really want to.

N.P. I was gonna snap some tonight on the way out to the party.....I love it I have no problem seeing out even when its dark and the tv . sat. and pda are light up....I cant see out the sides though but if you think about it the factory tint is 35% so .....I would do it .....

35% on the windshield??? Man, that is highly illegal. You can count on being pulled over.

Your girlfriend is so nice to think of you. Nothing says "Merry Christmas" like carbon fiber pillar covers.... :D

I've had my windshield tinted for a little over six months and I love it. And the best part is that I have a note from my eye doctor saying that I need the tinted windows do to my eyes being very sensitive to light.

Ha! That's cool, I am gonna get one too, and I'll get another note too that says that I have messed up muscles in my legs and I can't get my right leg off of the gas pedal... maybe it will work on some cops..

I'm running 25% on the windshield and 5% everywhere else.... The windshield isnt bad at all at night, it's the side windows that suck> I can't see :q:q:q:q, parking lots at night you've got to roll down the windows, otherwise it aint bad.

25% on the windshield means yours is illegal too. Looks like the cops in FL are going to be making some $$$ off you guys when you get fix-it tickets.

Merry Xmas!

Just a guess, but it may have to do with the fact that a public servant is willfully violating the law.

Im not endangering anyone.....If you look at some of the laws out there .....you cant lower, modify exhaust in any way, hear a radio from 50 feet away, have HID's, modify any lights in anyway, and tons more....Im not here to be judged on how I live MY life I really dont think im going to hell or never get a job or be a good EMT/FireFighter because I tinted my winshield

Here are the pics for those who did want to see them.....the first pic is outside the car.....the 2nd picture is out the side window 5% the third is out the front window 35% and the working on the one with the window down.....some of these have flash on them so you can see the tint in the car.....and let me know if you need more or somthing impurticular.....

So how's driving at night with it? Do you have any problems? A problem I always have is making a turn onto a street that has a median. I can't see the damn thing out my side windows so I'm always leaning forward to find it in the windshield. Would I still be able to see it out the windshield?

I love the look of the tinting, and don't worry about the people judging you. Whenever you get pulled over, turn the lights on in your car, put all your windows down, turn the car off, and keep your hands on the wheel. This will ease the cops worries. You know you aren't going to do anything stupid, so its really not an officer safety issue then.

Was there any haze issues after first applied? Does the tint glare headlights at all?

Thanks for all your info and g/l w/ EMT school

Nobody is judging you. We're just pointing out that you're violating the law. You can use the arguments above to make yourself feel better about it, but they won't change the fact that you're in violation. They won't help you when you're in court explaining it to the Judge either. Or the EMT Review Board.

Here's the Florida statute, if you're interested.

Florida Statutes (Full Volume 1993)

316.2952 Windshields; requirements; restrictions. ---

(1) A windshield in a fixed and upright position, which windshield is equipped with safety glazing as required by federal safety-glazing material standards, is required on every motor vehicle which is operated on the public highways, roads, and streets, except on a motorcycle or implement of husbandry.

(2) A person shall not operate any motor vehicle on any public highway, road, or street with any sign, sunscreening material, product, or covering attached to, or located in or upon, the windshield, except the following:

(a) A certificate or other paper required to be displayed by law.

(b) Sunscreening material along a strip at the top of the windshield, so long as such material is transparent and does not encroach upon the driver's direct forward viewing area as more particularly described and defined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards Nos. 205 and 128 as the AS/1 portion of the windshield.

(c) A device, issued by a governmental entity as defined in s. 334.03, or its designee, for the purpose of electronic toll payments.

The law is clear you cannot tint your windshield except for a band a the top. Choose to violate it at your own peril.

You may also want to review the qualifications for becoming a Florida firefighter or EMT:

Firefighter Certification and the qualifications for employment as a firefighter are governed by Florida State Statutes.

State Statute 633.31 outlines the minimum qualifications required for employment.

To become a State certified firefighter, you must -

* Be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D. certificate.

* Be 18 years of age or older prior to taking the state certification test.

* No felony convictions or misdemeanor directly related to the position of employment sought, nor have pled nolo contendere to any charge of a felony.

* Submit a fingerprint card to the division with a current processing fee. The fingerprint card will be forwarded to the Department of Law Enforcement and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

* Have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure established by the division.

* Be in good physical condition, determined by an examination by a medical doctor.

* Be a nonuser of tobacco or tobacco products for at least 1 year immediately preceding application, as evidenced by the sworn affidavit of the applicant.

* Successfully complete the Required Recruit Training - (Minimum Standards Course).

Note Point #5 -- Investigation of Moral Character. Is it good moral character to knowingly violate the laws of Florida?

In the end, no one cares what you do. Just realize your actions have consequences that could affect you, perhaps severely.

I really dont see how having window tint means I dont * Have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure established by the division. * this is talking more about what to do when you walk into a house and there is a stack of cash on the table and the Patient your are working dies......Do you take the money?? (this kinda stuff) I know all about these rules I already went thru the class.....
As for breakin the laws.....you have not done anything illegal to your car??
You dont ever break any laws???

He who has not sinned shall cast the first stone ????

If you are wondering about seeing still find someone who has 35% tint on there car and look out it at night....There is almost no vision loss....Also I noticed I am not blinded by on coming traffic anymore and the sun doesnt hurt as much either......As for the haze The guy that did my tint is the SH!T he took a heat gun to the entire window and there was no haze at all.....There is a little moisture here and there....but It is going away....You will love it and thanks again for the florida statues again I already reviewed them before doing this.....

ok let me drop my 2 cents into this bucket, my best friend lives in PHEONIX ARIZONA and my brother is a cop for the orlando police dept, tinting the windshield is very popular in pheonix because of the extreme hot weather they have witch in my opinion is worse than florida but in arizona this is legal to do and like 85% of the cars have them and i remember my brother telling my friend that he has pulled a driver over that had the tinted his windshield ( dont know if they was darker or lighter than yours) but when he pulled him over my brother told him either you take off the tint NOW or your getting a tkt and the car towed since it is a road hazzard especially for padestrians, the dude had his car towed and a fix it tkt, basically my brother cut him a break because he should of giving him a appear in court tkt but he knew that if he did that his license would of prob be suspended for a time, so SILVERLS i really do like the look and i have 356% tint and you are right they are almost transparent in the night time, but i still dont think you would loose your EMT for this unless the boss dont like you......

Thanks again man.....Like I stated there are very few cops that enforce the tint laws down here....Usally its when your acting like a "DICK" then they lay into you for everything.....If I am not mistaken Window tint is now a secondary ticket in florida....Meaning I have to get stopped for something else.....If i get stopped I would probally just pay the ticket instead of fixing it.....But I dont do anything stupid to get stopped....I drive like my Grandmother (99.5%) of the time.....It saves a ton on GAS!!!!!

It's not the window tint per se, its that fact that you're adding tint to the windshield with the knowledge that this act is in violation of the laws.

I'm not making this personal, I'm just pointing out that despite what you learned in class, "good moral character" as it applies to public servants (one of which you aspire to be) is interpreted quite broadly. Just because they outlined a few examples in class doesn't mean that is all there is to good moral character. As a general policy, there is a higher expectation that public servants will follow the law, since they make and enforce it. And when public servants violate the law knowingly, as you are doing, is probably the worst situation.

You say that you are not endangering anyone. That may be your interpretation, but as you've seen, the law is crystal clear and you are not complying with it. In any event, whether you're endangering anyone else is not your decision to make -- the FL legislature already made this decision for everyone and you are expected to follow it, especially if you're a public servant or employee.

Well after seeing this thread I am going to be finding out who can tint my windshield, I really like the look, Less glare to blind me on sunny days and looks a little sleeker...But on another note to ToddG you want to get really technical?? In your sig it says you have fuzzy dice? I hope those arent hanging from your mirror, because laws clearly state you cant have anything blocking your view of the road or obstructing your vision out of your windows, that is definitely a hazard to other people on the road and pedestrians you might now see...Keep it legal, hypocrite!! :D

I think the fuzzy dice might be a joke. If they aren't they don't obstruct your view of the road unless you're on a 45 degree incline.

I'm with Todd. I break the law frequently (speeding, etc). However, I'm not planning on being a cop, or firefighter, etc.

On a side note. IMO, the main reason police don't like this tint is NOT that you can't see outside, it's that they can't see inside. How would you like to be the cop that pulled someone over at night and you're walking up to the car not knowing what's in store for you when you knocked on the window?

Where I grew up if you had your front windows or windshield tinted you stood a pretty good risk of having an unpleasant experience if you did get pulled over...IE being taken out of your car at gunpoint.

We're all here to judge each other, it's fun:) REally, nobody's casting any stones here....we wouldn't want to shatter your illegal windows.

silver you said "Im not endangering anyone.....If you look at some of the laws out there .....you cant lower, modify exhaust in any way, hear a radio from 50 feet away, have HID's, modify any lights in anyway, and tons more...

is it illegal to modifiy your exhaust, modify lights, have hid's (even factory??), lower? I've never heard any of this. curious.
