Ok, here is the situation.

Battery been disconnected on a 2000 LS, 5 spd. When I put in the key, with battery disconnected, ignition lock turns over (without power no lights are on on the dash of course) but the steering wheel is still in the ANTITHEFT locked position.

Connect the battery, ALARMS goes off, still no difference.

P.s. KEY THAT I USE, dont have the transponder thingy in it, just a regular key to open trunk & door for now.

Any IDEAS??? is the steering wheel supposed to do that, or is there something broke?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try using your regular key.

I need to go to the Locksmith, to have 2 of them cut and programmed, since I do not have any in possesion at all. That was one of the things that I have to deal with when I bought the car, since it was theft recovery!

I'm not sure what your question is, since you just answered the one you asked. If your key does not have the PATS RFID chip in it, it will not work, although it will turn in the ignition cylinder. Without the correct PATS chip, the anti-theft system will ignore the key. (The key will physically operate the lock cylinder, but the computer controls the ignition.)

Of course, the relevant question is how the thieves stole the car; it's entirely possible that they damaged something under the dash, and that's why the wheel's locked. Have the locksmith (or your local Lincoln dealer) cut and program the keys; until you have working keys, there's no way of knowing what (if anything) is failing.

IIRC, the manual tranny'd V6es were the only LSes with a steering lock. On the '04 LS, at least, there is no steering lock, unless there's an undocumented (at least in relation to the Owner's Manual) locking mechanism in the PATS system.

Thanks for your info, now I got a little bigger overview of the thing.

Due to the fact that I am having hard time with the steering wheel being locked up, I am not having much luck being able to put the car on a dollie to pull it over to Locksmith or the dealership. I will do that next week, hopefully by Wednesday, and will keep it updated as far as if that the fact, as in alarm locking up the steering wheel and column.

Thanks again

I could be wrong but the last time I had to replace a lost key I went to the dealer that sold the car, they looked up the "numbers" and cut me a key. With proof of ownership, vin#,the dealer should be able to cut you a key without the vehicle being there.

Yeah, they cut a key, but they still have to program the chip inside of it., and since I dont got any keys at all, all I had the locksmith do, is cut me a regular, chipless, brass key so I can open trunk and doors.

But using that key in ignition, with battery being disconnected, I still get my steering wheel being in LOCKED position.

I am thinking that its the antitheft thing, and that until I get some "programmed" keys made, I wont be able to turn the wheel! Unless there is another "mechanical" problem with the steering column.
