I'm buying my friends Kicker 10" L5 in a Kicker box. He is letting me borrow his amp and I was wondering how many people hooked up subs to the THX Navi system? My friend is an electrician. Do you think he can hook it up? Its either tha tor i take to some audio shop but I'm looking for some input from other 03+ navi guys. thanks.

I added an amp and 2 10" to my stock thx system, but I let a shop do it 'cause I don't know jack about car stereos. It sounds bas ass though. Is your electrician friend the same friend lending you the amp? If so, let him hook it up. If he cooks it it's all him.

we took the top air vents off and the screws on the navi but it wont budge. how do i get to the other screws?

there's screws on the bottom too. you don't need to do anything up there. all the wires you need are in the trunk! do a search, there are even wiring diagrams posted here. for some reason if you want the head unit out you get to the bottom bolts by removing the surround arround the shifter(snaps off) then the two screws holding the ashtray. once the ashtray is out you can see the bottom bolts for the head unit. AGAIN, to hook up subs you need to do none of this...

Yea i just found that out. Where do I hook the subs up then? I looked in the back underneath where the dvd player, amp, and stock subs are. There are no RCA ports.

there are no rca ports. the sub amp I believe is in the rear deck near the subs. you'll need to splice the CORRECT wires and crimp on RCA connectors. Do a search....

beaups is right, I installed two subs in my 03 with THX and every wire I needed was in the trunk. You'll have to get a line convertor to change the speaker inputs to RCA if you amp doesn't have a high pass plug in. Then use the wires going to the factory subs (after the factory amplifier) as your speaker inputs. Run Power to your battery (use a fuse). Ground to the trunk (I used the a bolt on the trunk hinge) The remote wire is on the drivers side behind the carpet. It is a yellow wire in a large connector of other wires. The carpet on the top side of the trunk can be pulled down the access the speaker wires for the factory subs. It is actually very easy to install subs in the this car with the battery being in the trunk and I think you or your friend should not have any problems installing it. The only thing I found tricky was finding a remote wire that would turn off with the radio. I searched and found out about the yellow wire.

Damn!!!!!! I should've talked to you guys first, could've saved a hundred bucks on my install

actually you DONT need high level inputs on your amp if you grab the correct wires off the factory sub amp. The idea is to find the LOW LEVEL signal running to the factory amp. Likely get better sound quality that way FWIW

I thought it wasn't a good idea to run off this wire because it was shielded, but now that you siad it, I am going to have to try running mine off those wires and see if the quality gets better (even though I think the sound quality is really good with my current wiring).

if the quality is good don't mess w/it...you know the old proverb....
But make SURE you find the low level lines. don't run the speaker level outputs to your low level inputs or your bound to fry something.

Beaups, I did thanks for checking though.

Jaysal555 below are some pics of what I used for the remote wire. The wire is actually yellow with a bluish green strip. My remote wire is the blue wire.

hey rebel is that the sub amp or the amp for the other speakers? I thought the sub amp was on rear deck...could be wrong. problem if you tap on regular amp is I think the HU cuts low frequencies to that amp as volume increases to avoid speaker damage. not a good line to tap if you are wiring subs. Could be wrong.....

Engine noise

I recently had a panasonic 6.5 lcd put in also with the sirius box and ipod cable. I get engine noise as well as a click in my front right speaker when i am listening to sirius. with the ipod i just get the engine noise. What do i need to do. The install was professional and the thing is grounded correctly.
