Hey Guys. I need a little insight. I have a 2002 LS8 and i have been told that the stereo system including the head unit and the cd Changer is connected to the alarm system. My cd changer keeps jamming on me and i would like to change the Head Unit and put an aftermarket cd Changer in it but i don't know if its possible. I know alot of u have changed the head unit Were there any issues and is the Stereo system connected to the Alarm System?

Why cd changer?

Thats old school.

Get an avic with a built in harddrive and store everything digitally. Or you can throw a bunch of songs on a 32gb sdcard and play them off there.

No need to mess with cd's anymore.

Well all that i own r cds. haven't had the chace to convert them over to the ipod cuz it broke and thats the only logical option at this point. If i am able to change the head Unit, i will be able to load a sd card of songs on there and play songs from there

Of course you can change it...you can put any headunit you want.

It just all depends on how much you want to spend.

All that crap can be bypassed anyways.

I really hate oem systems. Most of them suck bad. The LS is an
exception with the THX.....freakin sweet except for the 1995 graphics.

The LS radio doesn't interact with the alarm, no worries.
You should be able to strap in any cd changer that says it's compatible. The 6 disk head unit can also control an external cd changer - that's how the iPod integration kits work.

who ever told you that need to be open palm slapped in the face, they obviously don't have a clue what they are talking about. i would find somebody else to get any further advice on this car.

CD's have to have too much care to be taken with them, their time is coming to an end, when was the last time you saw a car with an 8-track in it? multi-disc player are also for the birds, too many moving parts to last, you wouldn't believe how many cars less than two years old, i have to replace the radio in, its kinda sickening. i would get a good one disc player for reliability if you must hang on to obsolete technology. i have over 600 full albums in my CD changer* in my car, and all of the song names and track info also show up on the screen along with album art.

* my CD changer is a 160GB Ipod

oh, i agree.. I have a 250GB Archos player that all my cd's are on... i just need to save a bit to buy the video out cable to be able to play vids to my future screen.. haha

Nothing wrong with buying cd's.

But you can easily back them all up onto a pc, organize them and load them onto a ipod and play them in a vehicle.

Digital music doesnt degrade....cd's are digital but they still get scratched and worn and can skip. And as loud said moving parts fail. If you only play tracks off an sd card there is no moving part hence no failure.

cd changers are slow to switch between cd's....i have the six disc thx changer and the only reason i still use it is because it works and its a touchscreen and im doing everything else first and will overhaul the sounds in my ride last.
