i just got a brand new oem speaker shelf with the amp. never been used. should i upgrade the 2 speakers or leave as is? i have replaced the 4 door speakers with the polk's that were $29 a couple months agao. also, i have a blaupunkt amp wire from the battery to the dash via line-out converters...just waiting to be connected to the oe radio once i have time. does the rear amp just run those 2 speakers on the shelf, or all the speakers? what happens if i connect both?

didn't cost me anything. a gift from one of my obsolet part vendors that we do A LOT of business with. new in box. you can check www.car-part.com to see what the boneyards are selling them for, and then go from there. any thoughts on my questions?

thats what i figured. now i just need to know if the oem amp runs all the speakers or just the 2 on the shelf...and if anyone knows the wattage on that particular amp. i don't want to get "great" speakers if the amp cannot support them.

yes the amp only runs the rear. im pretty sure about that, i took it out of my car and had to tap into the rear door speakers to get sound in the back deck.

If you're talking about the speakers that go under the package tray, those are the subwoofers, and the amp only drives them. As to upgrade or not, I don't particularly have an opinion on that...

thanks again. i am pretty sure i will replace them, as i would rather a cleaner overall sound than just constant bass. anyone know the power ratings on the unit?

I don't know the ratings, but I read that only the low frequencies are passed back to those speakers (I think it was Quik who said that). It was not too long ago, but I don't remember what the subject of the thread was...

Class H amp rated at 32 watts per speaker. I'm not sure of the harmonic distortion rating. I believe they are 4 ohm spkrs wired in parallel for 2 ohm.

the stock premium stereo rear amp is 80watts and only runs those two speakers. The stock speakers are typical factory paper cone junk.

The rear amp connects to the factory head unit's rear amp output - so only 'bass' went to them, with low-level outputs.

One of the most common complaints about the audio system is the lack of bass -
- weak amp
- weak speakers
- very small 'sub-woofer' enclosure box (the tuff-stuff shelf)

I replaced all three.

took it out - in the the 'pile' of parts if I ever want to go back to stock.

did you build your own thing or suttin? im thinkin about puttin aftermarket speakers back there but every1 is tellin me it will sound muffled... any suggestions?

so, is the amp 85 watts rms or max? also, 85 watts per speaker, or total? i don't want pay for speakers that are gonna blow because the amp is weak.
