Hey guys, I'm trying to diagnose this problem I am having. When I start the car, hot or cold, the car makes a very strange "scratchy noise." I would describe is best in person as a bunch of marbles rolling around on glass.

I shot a quick video with a cell phone so sound quality isn't the best but it is VERY noticeable. It makes the sound at idle, accelerating or decelerating. As long as the engine is on it will make this noise, however, it comes and goes faintly.

It sounds like it is coming from underneath the Intake Manifold, possibly inside one of the valve covers.

here is a link to the youtube clip.

Thanks for any help.

It almost sounds like the timing chain slappin around? Have you changed the timing chain yet?

In short... yes. People have replaced the entire engine instead of replacing chains. But that is referring to the v8. I see you have a 6, so it could be way different.

Counter opinion: It may just be a bad idler pulley bearing. I'd look and the cheap and simple before assuming the worst.
Sounds reflect, and it could be coming from somewhere than where you think.
