Sub installation help needed !

oh and if you need help finding a system. let us know what your looking for (sound quality, pressure, price range etc.)

hey i just checked vm and heard your msg. Are still looking for an answer?

Here is my problem with your original post. There was a much more effective way to say that your mind was set and please just respect my choice of equipment. The f off nonsense was pretty much not needed. From that point on, you had already set the impression, whether you intended, that you had a really smarta** way about you. We all pretty much accept that anytime we post anything there is the strong chance someone is going to post with an opposing thought or choice. Overwhelmingly, most here accept that is just part of being on a forum but respect each other and just move forward.

That is my 2 cents and you can tell me to f off all you want....

Understood ! i can get ignorant at times !:shifty:

Mob your bipolar as a MF arn't you...(wonder what thats related to?) . What gets us "teenage 40 year olds" all worked up is stupid threads. Your legit question was answered (quite well by the way). But then you went off the deep end. If your going to pay, as you ignorantly put it "some mexican", to do a simple install, then why even ask in the first place, wasting our time.

As for teenage 40's (average is around 29) that need to get out of our mom's basement, Pretty sure that was covered in the what we do for a living thread ... But a pothead, ex-felon with extra "side hustles" doesnt sound like someone that has a lot of room to talk....

If you want help, ask. but dont be a tool about it. If your not going to actually do anything, then dont ask.

As mentioned above i can get ignorant at times by the way the Mexican is my boy's cousin who owns a detailing shop ! Ignorance at its best !

This is what I'm basically looking for . Something to add a nice crisp bass not much louder than the NAV stock ones because past +3 on the head unit and its all rattling back there i think the plastic surrounding the two subs is loose or something ! Basically a crisp bass that hits all the tones not one of those monotone systems ! Looking to spend 250 -300 sub and amp ! I mean the stock system is great its just the rattling is killing me ! Even the same strength as the stock

Thanks guys for putting up with my :q:q:q:q and moving forward ! Won't happen again ! I'm also going to man up and sincerely apologize ! I'm sorry to anyone I insulted or offended !

Yea, the OEM THX woofers (pioneer) eventually have the surrounds rot away, this is due to a combination of extended use, and cooking on the rear decklid in the summer.

Once they go this route, it is a good time to pop them out and run a separate driver in the trunk. What you are doing will achieve this just fine. But like I said above, do those steps and it is an easy job.

Yea, remove them - if it still persist, it is highly possible the rear decklid itself is rattling - a few strategically placed pieces of foam can solve this.

+1. The decklid is the source of a lot of vibration. Like Andrizzle mentioned some foam or even felt pads between the lid and the metal foundation should solve the problem. I never had the deck rattling problem until I installed an aftermarket sub.

You don't have to remove those subs and you won't be happy with 80 rms in the trunk.

What I did was lower the bass on the headunit and let the sub in the trunk take over. The stock subs don't rattle at all and I can turn the system up high. My deck lid does rattle but I'm running over 500rms.

Thanks i think ill try to fix the rattling then ! Good lookin' out ! i might as well keep the oem subs and just try to fix the noise instead ill spend the ,money on the led for my floods and fogs ! Getting my x-pipe and cia this week so ill be posting pics of my muffler delete and x-pipe install ! Quick question how much should i be looking at for the muffler job ? Ball park ?

To fix the rattling, try Second Skin Overkill. I have some installed to help with rattles
On the rear deck.

First off, you need a mono amplifier to power the sub.

Then take a LOC and attach to the rear stock subwoofer connectors.

After that run RCAs from that LOC to the subwoofer amplifier, and tap remote lead off of one of the OEM amplifiers in the back, or the NAV unit to tell the amp when do turn on.

After that just wire the amp to the battery that is already in the trunk, then attach subwoofer to the amp.

I have an 05' with Nav, I haven't dug around in the stock audio system at all. Are you saying that there is a stock sub in the LS? (I have the 10 speaker THX cert system)

Like I said, I haven't dug around at all. Are you just referring to rear speakers like 6x9's or something? Or are there actually small subs from the factory in there?

I'm just trying to figure out what you mean by attach the LOC to the rear stock sub connectors, because I expected there to just be regular speakers.

Also, "tap remote lead off of one of the OEM amplifiers in the back". There are stock amps? Haha, I just bought this car and I had a 95' Cavalier base model before it. I am not familiar with any actually decent factory audio systems. Is there clearly a REMOTE wire on the stock amps that you would just tap into?

Thanks!

Theres 6 speakers in the THX system and two amps. The four door speakers are two way component speakers (one midrange drive and one high freq driver) and the two rear decklid speakers are subs. Theres two amps in the trunk.

Subs dont have to be simply 10" or 12"...they can be oval like full range speakers. No need for more midrange when theres already four speakers so the rears are subs.

The first one is in the left side under the lining and this one powers the door speakers....If you ever change out a bulb youll see it. The other is next to the dvd drive under the rear deck and it powers the subs.

Things have changed a lot since 95 and remember the LS was not a cheap vehicle when new. But even back then there were amps from the factory. The system in the LS isnt the best but it was one of the best ones back when it came out and its still pretty damn good and better than most systems even now. I could only imagine the new THX systems.

Haha, thank you for all the details! So the amp under the rear deck will clearly have a Remote wire that I can tap into? Yeah, I agree the new THX systems must be pretty damn sweet!

Yes, but be warned that it is 6V/7V signalling level, not 12V. Some aftermarket amps will work with that, but others won't. You can add a 5V relay if needed.

This thread has the details.

google, youtube are also a big help to learn the basics around a car, just saying.

Go to google and type in," how to install a sub". A lot of videos will come up showing you how simple it is to do it yourself so you can start learning about little things here and there.

Thanks for preaching internet basics to me man.. but I have a pretty good understanding of subs and amps. I've just never owned a car with a factory "System" in it.

Can anyone tell me which one of these wires is the Remote wire for the factory amp? (This is the wiring harness coming from the head unit to the factory amp.)

If you read the thread I posted a link to, you would see that it is the Yellow wire with red band. (No more spoon feeding after this...)

I agree with that. I have a meter, I just need to turn the radio on and check for 9 to 12 volts?

You're only going to get 6 to 7 volts on the turn on wire. That's also in the linked thread.

I apologize, I am on a smartphone. It's not fun to navigate multiple threads. I appreciate your help, joegr. It shouldn't cause you so much heartache to give help on a forum dedicated to the LS. If you were so upset you didn't have to reply to my questions :p

**Anyone who was curious, my system was triggered just fine by the remote wire that was pointed out by joegr. I have a BOSS Audio Phantom 2000**
