Hey newguy here- great site.
I have a question about replacing my suspension. My LS rides like crap and I was told I need a whole new suspension on my 2000 (103k). Are the dealer shocks and sway bars, end links, etc. the best to get? Is there anyone who has replaced with aftermarket? Where can I find this information out? And are Monroe shocks any good? well thanx for any info

try doing a search at the top. i personally havent done it but i know several people here have

Man, go with stock shocks, they are the best. I have no idea about the other components though.

Do NOT put Monroe Sensatracs on your car. They SUCK! I have them on my car now and will be getting the boot soon. They are way too cushy of a shock and they are a tad shorter than the stock shock too. I would recommend staying with the stock shocks. There are three versions: base, sport and Euro.

Ken what is the diff in base sport and euro? can i put them in any ls. I have a base can i put the sprot or euro? my ride seems to soft to me. thanks

The difference is stiffness. The Euro shock is the stiffest of the three. A member here LS4me has them on his car. He may chime in and tell you how they are compared to the base shock. All three shocks can be installed on any LS since they are an OEM shock.

I have euro's on my car and they are really stiff. I would only recommend them if you are going to have to do some serious cornering or if you only drive on smooth roads. I will be switching to sport when the euro's need to be replaced. I like a little ride comfort. If you don't care about the ride and like the performance then they are the shocks for you.

thanks guys how hard is it to change your shock on the ls are they struts? do you need an alignment when done? thanks

how much of a difference is there between the base and sport? and also I heard the sport sway bars are different than base as well. I'm hearing a clunking noise under the car from the from and I'm thinking it's my ball joints. Lincoln doesnt sell separate ball joints! You have to buy the whole control arm assembly! It's about $245.00! Thats dumb! Is there an aftermarket company selling those? I sorry I have alot to ask but this is my first american car and I'm not to familar with them.

Thanx for any help

Its not that hard. I think they are more like a coil-over shock. You will need a spring compressor and about 4 hours for a first timer. Yes, you will need to get an alignment after.

sway bar help what is the diff and i take it you can get diff ones for your car where woudl you get them and do you have and idea if they would help and what they would cost. thanks

If you're just changing the shocks, you do NOT need to get an alignment.

Unless the shocks your putting on are clones of the ones you took off then it will change the geometery of the suspenion, however so slight.

The only after market manufacturer of the shocks is Monroe, and they aren't any good. A few of us have tried them, and they aren't up to the OEM shocks. These aren't struts, which are a component of the alignment. They are just coil-overs. I lowered my LS and the only adjustment that was out was the camber. With a 1" drop, my camber is -1º, which is within specs.

so between the base and the sport how much of a difference is there?

anyone know the answer?
The sport is going to be stiffer. Just depends on what you want out of the car. If you want ride quality go with the base. If you like it to handle better and don't care some much about ride quality go with the sport. If you don't care about ride quality at all go with the euro.

The total 'sport' option included bigger 'grippy' sway-bars, larger wheels, tuned shocks, tuned steering, upgraded brake pads.

the sport package included:

Sport Package ................................................ 60N
Wheels, 17" Super Silver Aluminum 5-Spoke

17" Mini Aluminum Spare Wheel and Tire... Replaced 16" Aluminum Spare Wheel and Tire.
European Sport Suspension Tuning............ Precision handling tuned shocks, sport tuned steering calibration and performance brake linings.
SelectShift Automatic Transmission............

How do you think the car would react with base shocks and the sport sway bars and larger wheels?

where do you get the sport or euro sway bars will i see an improvement over base? do i need to compress the springs to do the shocks? thanks

anti-sway bars change the oversteer or understeer of the car.

so it really depends on what you mean by 'improving'.

Springs set the ride height - have a little to do with suspension travel
Shocks set the suspension compliance
Anti-sway bays help tune the oversteer/understeer

Depends on the problem you are having - to target the right place to start.

it's euro or sport shock (not anti-sway bars).

yes - they are coil-overs so you use a spring compressor to make sure the spring is not pushing on the endcap when you are trying to remove it.

Ive got a 00 Sport Ls..I am thinking about lowering with eibach soon. My car has 72k on it and I am wondering if I should swap out struts while doing the spring change...What do you guys think? Also, What would you recommend for struts with a lowered application and probably adding 20" rims??

well - you can't add 20" and lower it.

and yes - at 72k replace the shocks if you swap to lowering springs.
