Check with Bill Jenkins at www.teamfordlv.com. IIRC, expect to pay ~$65 per shock.

how much of a difference is there between the base and sport? and also I heard the sport sway bars are different than base as well. I'm hearing a clunking noise under the car from the from and I'm thinking it's my ball joints. Lincoln doesnt sell separate ball joints! You have to buy the whole control arm assembly! It's about $245.00! Thats dumb! Is there an aftermarket company selling those? I sorry I have alot to ask but this is my first american car and I'm not to familar with them.

Thanx for any help

it is the ball joint, ive been hearing that noise for about 3000 miles and am having them replaced the day before thanksgiving. ive got 104k i know i need my shocks replaced too, and will probably opt for the Euros

any ideas on lowering springs, would eibach be the way to go?

Im not sure on if I want to get Monroes or stock Sport replacements on my car...I am going to be adding 20" rims this spring and if I can I would like to drop it an inch but I am not set on that due to rubbing issues, I dont take corners fast, not a road hugger just a daily driver...what would you guys say?? What is so bad about the Monroes, Ive heard they are a little shorter, does that mean they lower the a car or the travel is just shorter, please explain why so many cons on these shocks??

I had the Monroes on my car for about 4,000 miles and replaced them with the Sport shock temporarily until the Leda's come in. Now, I would not recommend the Monroes if you are wanting a stiffer ride. The Monroe's would be a great base shock replacement but not for the Sport or Euro replacement. As a matter of fact I have the set of Monroe Sensatracs I took off my car that I'll sell for $100 shipped. If anyone is interested.

Are they just the front shocks or the whole set? Like I said I dont know if I really want a stiffer ride, I just have a daily driver with 20s going on I dont hug corners or anything so I am thinking maybe the monroes might be fine for me..let me know, are your shocks in good condition, if so Ill probably take em...thanks

I have the front and rear Monroe shocks. They were only on my car for 4,000 miles and are in good shape. They just weren't stiff enough for me.

I had the Monroe's on my lowered LS with the stock 17" wheels wearing 245/45 Dunlops. I can't explain why, but the Monroe's ride a half inch lower than the factory shock. I couldn't keep the bottom of the car off of anything! Now, with the euro shock and 18" Voxx wheels wearing 245/40 General Exclain UHPs, I don't hit anything I didn't hit before.

Ken,

I returned mine to Auto Zone and got a full refund after explaining the apparent 1/2" shortness.

OK what I am wondering is, this might work out ok for me in a wierd sense...If I want to get 20s on my car and wanted to lower it but didnt want to worry about rubbing with a 1.5 inch drop, maybe the mess up and lower ride of the Monroes would give me a better stance with a little less wheel gap and I wouldnt need to bother with lowering springs? I am just worried about ride quality thats why I wanted input on the Monroes I had them on my Cavalier and my 2001 Monte Carlo with 22" wheels and I think it rode fine but everyone complains about them for the LS...

LS4me's case was an odd one; the shocks have nothing to do with ride height--that's set by the springs. To lower the car, you need lowering springs.

Yea, I know. I can't explain it. It makes no sense, but that was my experience.

well all this talk about shocks and struts gots me all confused??? starting to think i might need some replacements? lol cars feeling alot more rough when going thru pot holes, cracks and bumps.... well i have a 00 LSV8 Sport. with aprox 75k. i want to put some aftermarket wheels on it maybe 18" or most likely 19" and want to drop it an inch or two or maybe not lower it at all... what type of shock came with the 00LS sport? sport or Euro? should i replace the shocks... any other components? what about tire wear would it increase with the 1-2 inch drop? or should i leave it stock....? awwww shouldnt have read this thread... :Bang

another question? quick said that the sport comes with:

17" Super Silver Aluminum 5-Spoke, 17" Mini Aluminum Spare Wheel and Tire... Replaced 16" Aluminum Spare Wheel and Tire, Engine Oil Cooler,Alpine Sport Audio System..................my car doesnt have any of that with the exception of the engine oil cooler which i dont know if i do have or not.... where they all options when the LS was first sold? my car does have the select shift, leather wrapped steering wheel, Body Color Bumper Treatment....ect

anti-sway bars change the oversteer or understeer of the car.

so it really depends on what you mean by 'improving'.

Springs set the ride height - have a little to do with suspension travel
Shocks set the suspension compliance
Anti-sway bays help tune the oversteer/understeer

Depends on the problem you are having - to target the right place to start.
I have a non-sport if I added the sport sway bar to my v6 will my car turn flatter (or is that fixed by the springs) or is that a myth thats just in my head about anti-sway bars.

First, struts are irrelevant to discussions of the LS's suspension--it doesn't have any (unless you count the gas-charged struts that hold the hood up :D ).

Second, the pre-'03 Sports came with the Sport shocks.

Finally, worn shocks will make the car more bouncy, not more harsh. If you think about it, all a shock does is damp motion, so when it starts failing, it will be doing a less efficient job of damoing the motion, so the car will bounce more.

To see if you need new shocks, have somebody heavy push down on a corner of the car (I used to jump on the bumper, then jump off, but that might not be a good idea with today's bumper covers). The car should bounce back up, then come down and settle. IIRC, if it bounces more than twice, you need a new shocks on that end of the car (that shock is worn/shot, but you should replace shocks "per axle").
