Thought I would share with you all my latest project. Its something I have been planing on doing for a long time - finally did it.
Part one was to move the battery to the trunk. I originally wanted to do this since I was going to install a remote oil filter kit. With my new engine it turns out I did not need to since the filter is better located so I never did this til now. So using my already installed 4 gauge power cable the battery went into the trunk. I ran two short 4 gauge grounds to frame/body. The battery itself is located next to the air-suspension switch where the stock CD player would be. I had to modify the sub-body a bit to make it fit.
Part two was to move all the amps into the spare wheel well. They were originally installed in the factory amp tray. But with the tray installed, I could not move my subs back so I lost a lot of trunk space.
So both amps got bolted down into the well and I wired everything up along with the XM and iPhone modules. Looks great and yes I no longer have a spare tire. Also, I have a new "cargo" area in front of the amps. I plan on re-carpeting the new amp area but for now it works.
After doing all this the sound is AMAZING. I can not believe how much better things sound with the battery closer to the amps. I finally have the "theatric" acoustics I wanted. There is no more rumbling, just true deep base.
Before my bass level was set to +4 out of +/- seven and with my sub power set to 12 out of 15 max. Now the bass level its set to -3 and sub power to 10! No actual amp adjustments have been made since I have NO clue how! lol
Since someone may ask, here is my setup. Its basic, but works well:
Alpine CDA-9837 head unit with AiNet
MRD-M500 to power twin Type R 12" subs (amp rated at 650, I worked at a dealer and looked through them all)
MRV-F340 to power all four cabin Type R speakers
Alpine XM Module with hidden antenna
Alpine iPod/iPhone interface with custom center console dock
