Tachometer, Speedometer, Odometer Inop

New owner; no manuals. 1995 MarkI VIII (100,100) on odometer. Ignition Key On/Engine Off: ABS lights blinks on then off, Air Bag, Check Engine, & Oil light ON, until engine start, then off. Tachometer is stuck at 1900; Speedometer Inoperative, Odometer Inoperative. Postings indicate possible bad ground wire, but also mention fuses. Have located a fuse box on right side of dash. How to identify associated ones. Mostly concerned about Tachometer. Thanks.

id check the fuses and also pull the cluster out and check behind it and see if something has come unplugged.

hi! get some manuals. you can get a service manual and evtm for like 30 bucks. money well spent.

warning lights on, then off sounds pretty normal.

dead speedo/ odometer could be wiring/fuses, or the VSS on the trans. on a 95 it runs the speedo and odometer electronically.

stuck tach is common. sometimes the sticker slides down, other times, like my car, it just gets stuck and you have to replace it.

Chris2523; looking for manual; in interim, found instrument cluster fuse diagram, but no correlation to either speedometer or tachometer. Per your answer; two fold problem;
one the tach and one the speedo. When I have time to poke head under car is VSS easy to access. Appreciate the tips.

Yes. Very easy. It is on the driver's side of the transmission case. One bolt securing it, and one electrical connector.

make sure its not just a stripped out gear on the vss as well.
the plastic teeth do wear out eventually.

I think the cluster needs to be removed and harness wires checked, if fuses are all good. Maybe a simple unplug of the harness behind the cluster and plugging it back in might fix it. Whatever it is sounds like an electrical problem but like Chris said, these tachometers are known to fail. I had to replace mine as well.

The VSS could be the problem with the speedO but it doesn't hurt to loosen the bolt and pull it out for a look. I just don't think that's it but if it is, that's a 10 min fix or less, if you have another one in hand. Taking the cluster out is a little time consuming. Do you live in Alaska? If so, what part do you live in. I lived there too for about 4 years in Fairbanks. I was a kid though but I still remember a lot of it.

Cluster next. Every post says check fuses? Which & where - pointers?
Any idea on compatabile tire rims that can substitute for the 'directional' ones on car
