That is the EXACT same problem I had a couple months ago. They ended up replacing the thermostat innitially. Then the car started overheating again till finally by turning the car off it would not fix itself. I took it back to Lincoln 3 times. It ended up needing a whole new cooling fan assembly (big bucks), new thermostat again, and a new coolant jug. The total price with labor came to $1,300. My car is a 2000 V8, what is yours? Supposedly Palm Beach Lincoln has had a fair amount in for this problem.

I replaced my overflow cap about 3 weeks ago and haven't had the problem since.
