This may come as a surprise to few, but I thought it was worth sharing.

I had a squeal coming from up front, the belt was ruled out, so I figured I'd start with the two cheapenst pullies.

I pulled off the idler and the tensioner assembly.... the pullies looked really similar, so I pulled the nut out tof the tensioner and freed the pulley... ta dah, they're identical.

So, rather than replacing the tensioner, just get an idler pulley for $15 and toss it in.

Solved my squealing problem, too... which is good, because this car has already eaten $1200 in the last 7 days.

This is good info for those that don't know.

I replaced my whole tensioner(Goodyear/ebay $30) and idler(Dorman/RA $12) a couple months ago and I think the total cost shipped was just about 42 bucks. I prob would've replaced just the pully but it was making god awful noises from the actual tensioner.

All 4 of the wheels are the same size too. So if you ever have a flat, just use one of the other ones

I'm confused. What do you do about the wheel you just pulled off - take another from another corner of the car?

I can see this being like the time I tried to find a corner in that round room to put a corner table in....

Mine aren't. :(

Something wrong with what I posted?
Tensioners come with pulleys, knowing that the old tensioner is servicable for half the cost saves money. I don't see that fact conspicuously listed in anything that comes up in the mighty search, so I posted. Trying to figure out what prompted the smartazzed responces. :shifty:

:)It's good info. It's just that most of us know the tensioner and idler pulleys are identical. And it's all in fun. Don't take things too seriously. You'll live longer and might be able to keep some of your hair (unlike me):D

Comes with the territory around here, boyz being boyz and all... :)

Don't take it personal, just roll with it.

BTW, I did not know the info you posted, so that'll help me someday I'm sure.

I'm trying to think of some crafty way to use all these spare idler pulleys I have laying around

The tire was only flat on one side so you could just turn it 180 deg :D
