THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE & government censorship

Julius Genachowski has been nominated to be FCC Chair.

And foxpaws, could you clear up that last question- who decides which parties get the equal time in the form of a dissenting opinion?

If I don't like the message of a particular episode of WILL & GRACE or Designing Women in syndication, should I be able to get a dissenting opinion placed on the TV stations website too? Would the GOD HATES F@gs people get a link as well? Also, how would that be enforced?

I don't know - I would have to think about it -

Can't you guys draw in some other liberal pawn? Nope, you can't, you seem to have alienated all of them.

Tsk, tsk, fox, snarky much? What's the matter, can dish it out but not take it?

You say that like it is a bad thing. It is a positive. The liberals who got "alienated" were driven off due to there habitual use of dishonesty, distortion and personal attacks as a means of debate. The level of discourse has actually impoved because they were gone.

You don't engage in the personal attack aspect really (at least not directly, and definately not as much), and do bring about a closer examination of the arguments due to your obtuseness, if nothing else. Frankly, you are a step up from what was typical on this forum from the left a while ago.

That doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of dishonesty and distortion inherent in your arguments, though. And that Obtuse nature is as much a drawback as a plus, when you are obviously being intellectually dishonest.

It's a tough room. But you presented the idea and I can't make sense of it.
So when you get a chance. I'm sure this story will be in the news again soon.

Gosh, you certainly have a gift shag...;)

And Cal, I do have to think about it, somehow there has to be a way to acknowledge dissenting opinion, without causing any hassles to the originating media.

Perhaps a Wikipedia of Dissent. If you have a link to a dissenting site you could post it there...

We could make money on this somehow.:)

The media gets a 'code' for their story/show (much like the old codes that showed up on TV guide so you could program your VCR to record) and the link to that code gets posted on the media's website. When you click the link code you end up on The Wikipedia of Dissent site, and you can post your own link to an alternate opinion, or use that page to search out more on the topic.

Dumbest idea I've ever heard.

I have a better one.

Make the leftards compete for airtime, just like the rest of the 'talent' has to.

If nobody wants to listen to/watch their crap, they fail.

Simple. Done. Over.

Or are you anti-free market?

I don't compliment. I am just bluntly honest. You know this...

No one has a right to be heard.

I say let the ideas come as they may, challenged when the opportunity arises, and let society decide which ideas to keep and which ideas should wither on the vine.

But, it could be a great advertising venue. Plus, the media gets to look like the good guys, by providing access to dissenting opinion. It doesn't have to be good opinion, just any old blogger's link would work.

And no airtime involved.

Very pro free market. I don't moan and complain that left opinion shows wither and die... They should if they don't get the viewership. It is survival of the numbers...

If it's free-market, then the government isn't involved or mandating access.
So, short of a business proposition, have you rethought that position?

What an interesting video.
It sounds remarkably similar to something"suggested" earlier.
What an amazing coincidence.
I do believe that if asked by the ‘opposing viewpoint’ the fact there is an opposing viewpoint should be made known, and how to gain access to that viewpoint.

All media has web presence. All you have to place is in the related opinion stories comment section is a link to dissenting opinion. The media outlet is not required to look for dissenting opinion - only to post a link to an example of it if asked to by the opposing side.

Very similar to what Cass Sunstein proposed back then.
