The Mark is Supercharged

Thanks again, everyone. I too am curious what the fuel economy will be, but honestly, ever since I started this build, I turned off the mileage computer on the message center :)

With the 3600 stall tc, and 410's - it feels like when you have a sling shot pulled back ready to release, when tooling around town. :)

Aric called today, and said the Vortech mini blow off valve is now installed on the Mark, and the idle is now smooth :)

He had time today to put his boost gauge on, and to work on some vacuum line issue, and decided to take it back to the dyno.

I do not have a sheet for this, but he said he dyno pulled 383rwhp with a max of 8psi boost that hit at 6500rpm using a 3.50 pulley with a fat air/fuel mix using the stock gen2 intake. That is good enough for me! :)

He said we do not need the Cobra intake now, and I am a pulley size away from going beyond 400rwhp. He said this tune is super safe, and I should be able to run it hard all day at the track if I like. :)

He is now setting up the transmission shift program, button everything up, and also try to locate me some new battery cables because I think they look like crap.

If all goes well, maybe by this weekend I will get to drive the Mark until all the brake, rim, and tire stuff comes in. :)

I am going to pick up the Mark tomorrow afternoon :) I stopped by the shop today, and Aric had the Mark completely detailed inside and out including a Zaino treatment for me :) I truely appreciate that.

He is installing all new battery cables from a Mustang GT, since Ford no longer has a battery cable harness available for the Mark VIII.

He had Joey Bell weld the Vortech mini race blow off valve directly before the intake of the intercooler(drivers side of the IC) - venting to atmosphere. He also kept the bypass valve installed in it's original location. Ryan is going to send me a picture of the blow off valve installed.

He has the transmission shifting done, and we were going to take it for a ride until it started raining. A couple things he noted were...

The TC would unlock when the A/C would cycle on (or the other way around - I can't remember all he said). This is a Lincoln thing to not disturb the passengers with the engine load change. He fixed that.

The other is a little more complicated. He said this car will just flat out totally roast the stock tires now, all through first and second gear by just stabbing the gas.

The problem is while in second gear, the computer is reading 85mph and is commanding third gear, when in reality, it might be going half that speed. When the wheel spin finally stops and it hooks in third gear, the transmission is then commanded to drop back down to second.

The brakes, rims, and tires are on order, and the rears are 10 1/2" wide rims and the tire size is now going to be 305/35/18. Bad news is, it is looking like August time frame before everything comes in.

Thanks Guys :)

Well everyone, The Mark is home now, and we are getting reacquainted again :) Here are some final result SC build pictures, and the final dyno tune sheet. I will post a time slip from the drag strip, and bring closure to this thread.

I would like to thank everyone for their participation in this thread, as it did help me alot. Hopefully, everyone has learned something along the way, and the next person doing this type of SC build can use this info to help them with their build. :)

Finally, A huge THANK YOU to Injected Engineering, for making my dream come true :) Enjoy!

Mike, what was the amount you paid for the installation? I am thinking of doing this for my 97.

Also, does anyone have any photos of a Gen1?

GMAN, Vortech's web site says the following regarding a basic supercharger installation. The work done to my Mark goes way beyond the basic Vortech kit.

Keep in mind, Vortech does not make a kit for a Mark VIII. You will have to use a 4v Mustang kit. I suggest you call some of the hot rod performance shops and talk to them about your needs. That is what I did.

As usual, it boils down to how much money do you want to spend? :)

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/support.php?support_section=Frequently Asked Questions

"Vortech supercharger systems are designed to fit neatly under the factory hood and they 100% complete, even down to the wire ties. Installations are straight forward with step-by-step, fully illustrated installation instructions. Most Vortech supercharger systems bolt-on with ordinary hand tools in about 7-12 hours with absolutely no fabricating or cutting of body panels. If you wish to have your Vortech system professionally installed, international turn-key installations are available from your nearest Vortech distributor (please call Vortech sales for your nearest authorized Vortech distributor)."

I went to the track last night, and wanted to post the results.

I did a total of 5 runs, and Aric did 3 runs. Traction was a big issue, and the shift points still need work. Aric loaded up a cool program on the xcal2. A totally electronic manual valve body :) He used it on the last run of the night. This file will turn the Mark into a manual shift car. Leave it in third - and it will stay in third, even leaving from a stop light. I have it on video, it is the last video below.

The best run of the day was a 12.745 @ 108.43. It is the first video below. Here is the slip:

60'.....1.865
330'....5.337
1/8.....8.179
mph.....86.26
1000'..10.660
1/4....12.745
mph....108.43

I am the driver for the first video during the day. The three night videos are with Aric driving the Mark.

Your current setup will blow away any Mustang GT. What about Roush Mustangs? I am pretty sure we can hold a candle to the new GT500.

Sweet mark and good runs at the track.

Thanks, everyone. :) The Mark still needs some fine tuning, but it still waves the flag proudly for us Mark VIII owners :)

gotta love seeing you dragging on the octistars, if mine didnt look like crap i would still be rockin them :)

Yep, I really like the o-stars too. But, I am going to convert to Mustang hubs, and Cobra R Brembo brakes, and they just will not fit. So, I ordered a set of Forgeline 10 1/2" wide rims to fit a set of Toyo 305's in the rear with a sway bar mod to squeeze them inside the wheel well. Might have to roll the quarters too. The brakes, rims, and tires should all arrive by the end of August. Here is a picture of the rims and a link to the site:

That car was supercharged with stock internals as well, but put out a bit more HP to the wheels.

Wow maybye you should read Joes post he had h beams and forged pistons with his t-trim pushing 550rwhp. The stock rods and pistons would take an exit strategy long before the crank decided to self destruct.
